Where the Wind Blows is an intense Western drama/romance story taking place in the late 1800s. Cowboys Nathan (C. Thomas Howell) and Chase (Trevor Logan) have been out on the range for awhile. When Nathan is killed, Chase takes it on himself to ride back to give the news to his widow Jessie (Ashley Elaine).

This task takes a toll on the tough cowboy, but his soft side soon emerges. He is a rough and tough cowboy on the exterior, but on the interior he has a good heart.

Jessie is saddened by the loss of her husband but not to the degree Chase expected. There is something amiss with their marriage, which he will discover later on.

In the meantime, Jessie asks a big favor of this stranger. She is intent on adopting a young girl named Sarah, and without a husband it is impossible. Jessie asks him to pose as Nathan until the papers are signed. Then he can go on his way.

Chase is honorable and refuses to be part of this deception, however when he sees the love in her eyes for Sarah, he relents. Soon Jessie has the family she has desperately wanted. But besides the girl the couple adds a boy to the adoption.

With the papers signed, Chase is free to go about his life, however circumstances intervene and soon he is back with Jessie and the two young ones, pretending to be a happy family. And they are a happy family, however they are not a legal family.

While they are living their lives a spark ignites between Jessie and Chase. (You didn’t see that coming, did you?) Their lives are happy until two criminals interrupt their peaceful existence.

It is now up to Chase to find a way to keep them all together – and alive.

The wide-open country and the old Western towns add ambiance to the story as the characters face obstacles until – spoiler alert – things ultimately work out for them.

The film is based on the book which is part of the “Prairie Hearts Series” by Caroline Fyffe. Whether more books in the series will find their way onto the screen is not known.

Where the Wind Blows opens in theaters and on demand October 24, 2025. The film is rated PG-13 for violence, bloody images, and suggestive material.
