Catch ‘Runner’ in theaters

The latest film from Angel Studios is an intense story of good versus evil. Runner stars Alan Ritchson as Hank Malone, a former Navy Seal who thought his fighting days were behind him, but ends up in the middle of a fight for survival against a dangerous cartel.

His job is basically that of a currier. He picks up items and delivers them to their destinations. Little does he know that his next job involves much more than a simple delivery.

Owen Wilson is Ben Bishop, a conscientious medical currier who is tasked with delivering a liver from a homicide victim in Hawaii to a little girl in Australia. If little Ellie (Scarlett Crabtree) does not get a new liver soon – and I mean SOON – she will not survive. Her mother Kate (Leila George) is waiting patiently, or impatiently, for the liver to arrive. It should be a simple delivery. But it isn’t.

Both Ellie and the liver’s donor have a rare blood type, and, as it turns out, the head of the cartel is in need of that liver just as much as little Ellie. So the entire gang of ruthless, killing thugs attempt to steal the medical box from Ben and Hank, but neither of them is willing to let it go.

The intense scenes play out through the streets and countryside in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia as Hank leans on all his Navy Seal training to keep both Ben and the liver safe. Nothing is going to stop him from delivering that precious box and saving Ellie. But the cartel has other ideas. As the bodies pile up, it is a dangerous race against time to keep the liver viable and deliver it to the hospital for Ellie. 

Unfortunately, these ruthless thugs seem to know every move they make. Someone has to be on the inside relaying their locations. But who would do that? 

Pairing Ritchson with Owen Wilson was genius. They make a great team. 

All Ben wants to do is to safely deliver the organ to the hospital. He has done this countless times in the past. But this time is very different. And as he keeps his determination to complete his job, he discovers he, like Hank, will do whatever it takes to save the little girl.

Ritchson is the action hero of today. He has starred as Jack Reacher in the hit TV series Reacher since 2022, and as he steps into the role of Hank Malone, he proves he has what it takes to take on the toughest foes while maintaining his humanity.

There are many intense fighting scenes with knives, guns, and cars. There are also some cute and humorous scenes, especially with a bird that likes to play “peek-a-boo,” but for the most part, this is a truly dramatic story filled with heart. (or should I say liver?) Runner is rated PG-13 for strong violence, bloody images, and some language.
