‘Fountain of Youth’ streams on Apple TV+

Category: Television and Streaming

John Krasinski and Natalie Portman star in Guy Ritchie’s action-adventure film Fountain of Youth, streaming on Apple Plus. Luke (Krasinski) and his sister Charlotte (Portman) have been estranged for awhile but one big adventure reunites them.

Owen Carver (Domhnall Gleeson) is a dying billionaire who wants to find the famed Fountain of Youth. He is financing this big adventure that takes the team around the world, following clues to decipher the location of the fountain. To do this the team must steal – or more precisely Luke must steal – six classic paintings who have messages hidden on the back of their canvasses. One by one these famous paintings wind up in the hands of the team and they are soon left with a puzzle deciphering the clues.

If this sounds familiar, yes, you’re right. In 2024 Nicolas Cage and Diane Kruger starred in National Treasure, which has similar properties to Fountain of Youth, with some major differences but nevertheless in both films trace clues to their ultimate treasure. Perhaps the main difference is the cast and actors’ personalities.

This team is not deterred by Interpol, a Thai mob, or anyone that stands in their way. They are steadfast in solving the puzzle and finding the fountain.

The Protectors, led by The Elder (Stanley Tucci) have kept secrets throughout the centuries. His disciple Esme (Eliza Gonzalez) is hot on the trail of Luke and his team in an attempt to stop them from finding the fountain.

There is plenty of action involved – car chases and scooter chases are just the tip of the action. They must also bring up the torpedoed Lusitania to extract a painting from the Vanderbilt vault. Then they have to steal a famous bible. There’s more in store for this team as they take on one challenge after another, all the while pursued by those who want to stop them.

This is a little bit National Treasure and some DaVinci Code. The ending leaves room for a sequel.

Fountain of Youth is rated PG-13 for violence and action, and some language.
