Newest Edition of Disney’s Animators’ Collection Dolls

Animators-Collection-1The Animators’ Collection is a popular and adored line of dolls from Disney. The folks there have taken classic Disney characters and reimagined them as young kids. In this third incarnation of the series, the dolls once again come with a little “side kick” that holds special interest for the character. When they premiered the original series, the dolls had their pals with them, but the second edition did not. The second edition changed the dresses completely. Now the clothing is reminiscent of the original edition and of course, the little pals are back!

Anna and Elsa each come with their own Olaf, and of course little Kristoff holds his best friend Sven. Ariel comes with little Flounder, Aurora comes with The Owl, Belle includes a little Chip, Cinderella holds Jaq, Jasmine has Raja, Merida holds a little Angus, Pocahontas comes with Meeko the raccoon, Rapunzel has Pascal, Mulan has her dog Little Brother, Snow White has a little bluebird, Tiana has of course a frog, and Tinker Bell comes with a little baby crocodile.

Animators-Collection-2

Besides now including a little friend for each doll, most of their costumes have been redone. They are updated versions of the original edition of Animators’ Collection Dolls. With most of the same coloring and somewhat the same styles as the original edition, there are some minor changes.

Snow White is minus her cape yet Aurora does have her satin shawl back. Perhaps the two biggest wardrobe changes are with Aurora and Merida. Aurora is back to wearing her Briar Rose costume, and Merida’s costume returns to her blue and gold.

The outfits are only part of the charm of these dolls. The actual faces are what really impact consumers. They are each adorable and kids – as well as adults – will have a difficult time choosing which one – or which ones – to buy. Disney animators did an incredible job reimagining the characters as young children, however in the case of Elsa, Anna, and Kristoff they were each portrayed as little kids in the movie Frozen, so it wasn’t that much of a stretch to create them in doll form.

Animators-Collection-3Every face depicts innocence and sweetness. These wide-eyed little faces will melt anyone’s heart. And we have artists like Becky Brese, Bill Schwab, Jin Kim, Tony Smeed, Steve Thompson, Glen Keane, Matt Nolte, and Mark Henn to thank for these cherubic dolls.

There is no doubt the newest edition of Disney’s Animators’ Collection Dolls will be the most wished for presents this holiday season. One look at them and you’ll know why. With their updated costumes and their little pals, this edition of Disney’s Animators’ Collection is adorable.

So, whether you select baby Snow White, the fairest one of all, the young adventurous Ariel, sweet little Belle, sensitive Pocahontas, the young Jasmine, bright-eyed Rapunzel, “Bayou Baby” Tiana, mischievous Merida, classic Cinderella, precious Aurora, Baby Tinker Bell, or the Frozen kids (Elsa, Anna, and Kristoff), you can’t make a wrong decision. They are all wonderful and will be loved by kids and adults.
Each box includes the 16 inch doll, their little pal, and character sketches by the animators. They are recommended for ages 3 and up.

Note: If you intend on displaying your dolls, Kaiser Doll Stands are made in America. There are a couple models that will probably be best for this line of dolls. The #3001 and #2601 should work with a little tweaking on the clips to stretch them just a bit so they won’t squeeze the doll’s abdomen too hard.

Dyson Allergy Kit – Product Review

If you have an asthma and/or allergy sufferer in your house, take note. The Dyson Allergy Kit is a great addition to your Dyson upright or canister vacuum. With three little tools it addresses some problems that can be helped by this one kit.
I have said to my friends and family that “I can smell dust.” When I walk into a room, I can smell dust if it’s there. I am extremely sensitive to this and like other allergy sufferers it is difficult for me to dust the house because of this sensitivity. The Dyson Allergy Kit greatly improves the ability of allergy sufferers to clean their homes, and once they’re clean, allergies are greatly improved.

First, the Soft Dusting Brush is a good way to gently clean surfaces. Blinds and shutters are especially notorious for collecting dust and we often don’t think about cleaning them as much as we should. And, this little tool helps clean keyboards (how often do you dust your keyboard?) as well as other surfaces. It has soft bristles so it won’t scratch surfaces.

The Flexi Crevice Tool includes an extender so it can reach behind couches, tables, desks, and other furniture where dust collects and because it is hidden, we often forget about dusting these spaces. Floorboards and floors, whether they are hard or carpet, collect dust even when they are out of sight.
And the tool I especially find interesting is the Mattress Tool. Have you ever thought about dusting your mattress? Probably not. This tool removes dust and allergens – including those pesky mites – on your mattress, as well as upholstered furniture. Sure, we vacuum our furniture from time to time, but mattresses are usually forgotten. And since we spend a large portion of our lives in bed, it’s a good idea for allergy sufferers to pay attention to bedding and beds. The Mattress Tool also gets loose fibers and pet hair.

If you already have a Dyson upright or canister vacuum, consider this Allergy Kit to add additional relief for the asthma and allergy sufferer in your home.

Disney’s Frozen Products

Disney’s Frozen has captured the attention and imagination of people all around the world. In this day and age when special effects, blood and guts and sex are the big draws in the theaters, one animated movie has captured the heart of the world. The Imagineers at Disney reimagined Hans Christian Anderson’s “The Snow Queen.” And this sweet little animated film is now the highest grossing animated film of all time. It is the second highest grossing Disney film (behind Marvel’s The Avengers), and it ranks as the fifth highest grossing film ever. Those numbers are still rising.plush-elsa

The characters are all beloved, whether it is Elsa, the princess who becomes Queen and freezes the country of Arendelle, Anna, the princess who is filled with hope and love, Kristoff, the ice man who manages to get involved in the family crisis and becomes Anna’s love interest, Olaf, the snowman who dreams of summer, or Sven, the reindeer with wonderful expressions and a tender heart.

The merchandising of the film went into high gear too. The Disney Animators’ Collection includes Elsa, Anna, and Kristoff in their young years. The newest edition of these dolls also has the kids with fun little “friends.” Elsa and Anna each come with a version of Olaf, and Kristoff comes with a little Sven.

minidollsFor lovers of plush dolls, the Anna and Elsa are a-d-o-r-a-b-l-e. These soft little dolls will be cuddled through the night by youngsters, and most likely carried with them all day long. They are recommended for ages 3 and above and stand about 12 inches high. Just looking at these adorable little faces will bring out a smile on any kid.

There are more adult dolls, including a four-piece set with Elsa, Anna, Kristoff, and Hans (of the Southern Isles). These mini dolls are geared for ages 4 and up. Each plastic doll stands about 5 ½ inches high and this set is for sparking little imaginations.

arendell-castle-open2And speaking of imaginations, forget Barbie’s dream house. There is now a Frozen Castle of Arendelle Play Set. This is absolutely amazing and will provide years of fun for kids. It is recommended for ages 3 an up, and comes with Anna, Elsa, Hans, Kristoff, and Olaf figures. Sorry, no Sven is included with this set. The castle has hinged doors and three levels. Think of all the hours of fun that can be had in this play castle. Furniture is also included. This is sure to be a big hit this holiday season. I would want it if I were a kid. Oops. I’m not a kid but hey, I would still like it!

These are just a few products available from disneystore.com. There are plenty more items featuring the beloved characters from Frozen. No matter what your budget allows, you can find something Frozen for your children or grandchildren, or even yourself.

Wedding Planner Mystery on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries

Final AssetsA curious and imaginative wedding planner finds herself embroiled in an evil plot in Wedding Planner Mystery on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. Carnegie Kincaid (yes, that is her name) is more than a conscientious wedding planner. She goes above and beyond in this fun little film.

Carnegie (Erica Durance) is an interesting woman. She lives to make the perfect weddings for her clients. She believes in the “picture perfect romance” and wants her clients to have the best experiences she can provide. But everything changes when one of the bridesmaids is killed during the reception when she ran out after a fight with her boyfriend, took her cousin’s car, and ended up crashing and dying at the scene.

The incident happened at one of the weddings for a prominent family, and Carnegie is working on the upcoming nuptials for another woman in this family. The Parry family is under suspicion for white-collar crimes, but that doesn’t deter Carnegie and her business partner from planning the weddings. Without these weddings, her business would not survive.

But what really happened to the car? Carnegie believes it was tampered with. And when the brakes go out on her own car, she knows there is something afoul.

Then Carnegie keeps running into a reporter who continues to ask her questions about the Parry family. Aaron Gold (Andrew W. Walker) is charming but persistent. Now add the Parry’s dashing attorney Holt Walker (Brandon Beemer) to the mix and Carnegie is up to her neck with interesting men. Holt just might be the man for her, though. He has the qualities she admires, but then again, Aaron could be her accomplice in figuring out the ongoing mystery. While juggling different relationships with these two men, she also must juggle her business and her sleuthing.

Who could the killer be? Carnegie’s list of suspects is vast: the floral arranger, the baker, the chauffeur, the accountant, or maybe her business competitor. But Carnegie is also on the police list of people of interest. The fact that the Parry family is at the heart of it all adds to the mystery. This family “makes the Kardashians look like the Waltons.”

While continuing to plan the next big wedding, cool, calm, yet feisty Carnegie also sets her sights on solving the crime. She is convinced someone close to the family or her own business committed the crime. But who? And more importantly, why?

The plot comes down to murder, kidnapping, and extortion, with a perky wedding planner at the center of it all. This is a fun, lighthearted mystery. And, in the end, Carnegie learns “you can plan a wedding but you can’t plan love.”

Wedding Planner Mystery premiers Sunday, October 19, 2014 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.

New Blu-ray Titles from Twilight Time

labambaSeveral new Blu-rays have recently been released from Twilight Time. This new batch of films has something for everyone.

La Bamba

The 1987 movie La Bamba introduced audiences to a very young Lou Diamond Phillips. This bio-pic is the story of Ritchie Valens, a rising rock and roll star who tragically died in a plane crash when he was only 17. What he would have achieved had he lived is not known, but in his short career Ritchie had several hit songs, including “Donna,” “Come on, Let’s Go,” and “La Bamba.”

Ritchie’s rise to almost instant stardom is depicted along with his relationship with his devoted mother, his rivalry with his brother Bob (played by Esai Morales), and his relationship with girlfriend Donna (played by Danielle von Zerneck). Valens is portrayed as a clean-cut young boy and the direct opposite of his brother who is shown as a drinking, drug dealing, and troubled young man.

La Bamba was Lou Diamond Phillips’ first starring role. From there he has built a strong career as an actor and has even taken on the role of director from time to time. He currently is seen in the TV series Longmire.

Ritchie Valens was born Richard Steven Valenzuela in 1941. His professional name was changed to Ritchie Valens when he was discovered as a high school student in 1958. He hit the top of the charts quickly but had a short ride. On February 3, 1959 Valens, along with Buddy Holly and J.P. Richardson, aka The Big Bopper, were killed in a plane crash. This day is known as and memorialized by rock and roll fans as “The Day the Music Died.”

CheChe!

Jack Palance and Omar Sharif star in the 1969 film Che! Palance portrays Fidel Castro and Sharif plays Che Guevara in this story of Argentinian revolutionary Ernesto “Che” Guevara and his association with Castro as they fought against the Batista regime and Castro rose to power in Cuba. From 1956 to 1967, the story of Che’s life plays out for viewers.

dogsofwarThe Dogs of War

And the third film, The Dogs of War, is an adaptation of the novel by noted author Frederick Forsyth. This is the story of mercenaries conducting a coup in a fictional African country. Christopher Walken and Tom Berenger star in this 1980 film.

Each one of these Blu-ray editions is limited to only 3,000 each. So, whether you are in the mood for a musical bio-pic, a historical bio-pic, or a fictional but believable political film, there is something on this list for you.

The Great Train Robbery on DVD

trainrobberyWhen you hear The Great Train Robbery, you probably think of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, or another group from the Old West. But this has nothing to do with America, the Old West, or cult figures of that time.

From the writer of the hit British series Broadchurch comes this two-part British miniseries The Great Train Robbery, starring Luke Evans and Jim Broadbent. The story is based on actual events and is divided into two sections. The first disc tells the story of the men who planned and executed the amazing robbery of the Royal Mail train in 1963, and the second disc is the story of how the detectives hunted down everyone connected with that crime.

On August 8, 1963 the Royal Mail train was en route from Glasgow to London as usual. But along the way a group of men hijacked the train and stole a great deal of money. The actual amount they took was £ 2,631,784, which in today’s money would be over £ 41 million. That’s not chump change.

There are not really humorous scenes in this story, however the one that comes the closest to giving viewers a chuckle is when the robbers are attempting to learn how to drive a train so they can pull off the heist. Once they get going, they need to stop, but the driver admits, “I can’t remember which one is the break.” Needless to say, after that debacle they added a professional train driver to their crew.
The robbery occurred after extensive planning. Although they were not planning on any violence, they were pretty violent with their victims. And the final sum of their heist was a lot more than they bargained for, to their surprise. Although they were happy with their new wealth, the sum brought the wrath of the country and the detectives down on them. “It wasn’t supposed to be the crime of the bleeding century,” quipped mastermind Bruce Reynolds, played by Luke Evans.

The second disc is the hunt for the criminals, under the supervision of Scotland Yard’s Detective Chief Superintendent Tommy Butler, played by Jim Broadbent. This man refused to do anything but focus on the criminals. It took time, but Butler and his crew managed to hunt down the members of the group responsible for the robbery. He wouldn’t even retire when he was supposed to. He wanted to wait until he got the last one, the mastermind, Bruce Reynolds.

Butler and his investigators were relentless and brilliant. It took five years to complete the task, but they managed to get the robbers and solve the crime. This real-life story is amazing to watch unfold on the screen.

Bonus features on the discs include many interviews with those involved in the film. “I really enjoyed the research,” Evans acknowledged. Having many newsreels of the real Reynolds to study, the actor knew how to portray him when it came to filming the story.
And Jim Broadbent admitted he enjoyed the format of the film, which is “simple in structure.” Yes, this is a simple story, and yes it can be slow moving at times, but given the fact that it really happened makes this an intriguing drama. It’s an interesting part of British history.

The Great Train Robbery’s two discs (“A Robber’s Tale” and “A Copper’s Tale”) are now available on DVD. The film is not rated.

The Best of The Danny Kaye Show on DVD

dannykayeWhat can anyone say about Danny Kaye except that he was a very talented man? He was a dramatic actor, a comic actor, a singer, a dancer, and a great entertainer. The Danny Kaye Show aired from 1963- 1967 and highlighted not only the talents of Mr. Kaye but also those of his guests. The Best of The Danny Kaye Show is a two-disc set with six uncut episodes from the hit variety show.

Some of the guests on these episodes include Art Carney, Jackie Cooper, Buddy Greco, Michelle Lee, Harry Belafonte, Liza Minnelli, Ella Fitzgerald, and of course, Gene Kelly, who teaches Kaye that it’s possible to dance to anything, including a recipe! Don’t ask. You’ll have to take my word for this!

There are black and white episodes as well as color ones. Remember, the early 60s was a time of great change not only in the world, but also in television. The discs include the full episodes as well as a nice little feature where viewers can select songs from the episodes. So, if you just want to see the songs by Liza Minnelli, for example, you can select this option from the main menu.

Among the notable films in which Danny Kaye starred were: Up in Arms (1941), The Kid from Brooklyn (1946), The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (1947), Hans Christian Andersen (1952), White Christmas (1954), The Court Jester (1955) Merry Andrew (1958), and The Five Pennies (1959). These films highlight the diverse talent of this one man. He could do it all: sing, dance, and act. What’s amazing about it is he did everything equally well.

And not only was he a great entertainer, he was a great humanitarian, devoting much of his time to help others. He was the Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF.
Danny Kaye received the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award from the Motion Picture Academy of Arts and Science in 1982, and in 1955 he was presented with an Honorary Award for his talent and service to the Academy. During his career he was nominated for several Golden Globes (he won two), and several Emmy Awards. He won the Emmy in 1964 for Outstanding Performance in a Variety of Musical Program or Series for The Danny Kaye Show.

Yes these episodes are dated, and yes many of the skits are corny. But this DVD set is a good piece of Hollywood and television history.
The Best of The Danny Kaye Show is not rated.
