Another “up”lifting holiday story hits the airwaves. Paper Angels is an original movie for the UP network starring Matthew Settle and Josie Bissett.
One day Lynn (Bissett) has had enough abuse from her alcoholic husband so she secretly takes off with her son Thomas (Rustin Gresiuk) and daughter Sara (Farryn VanHumbeck). They don’t know where they are going, but anything is better than the physical and psychological abuse they are living with.
They start life anew where Lynn takes a job at a local diner and Thomas and Sara attend a new school. Vic (Burkely Duffield), the tough jock on campus, takes an instant dislike to the new kid and immediately starts a bullying Thomas. Not wanting any problems, Thomas basically sticks to himself. Then the bullying goes cyber and things get out of hand.
Meanwhile, Kevin Morrell (Matthew Settle) is having problems with the company he started. Will it go under or can he save it? Besides this concern, his wife Jenny (Kendra Anderson) is pregnant with twins, and there are complications with one of the babies.
Kevin and Thomas’ lives intertwine on the basketball court where Kevin coaches at the local community center. Although both of them are experiencing hard times, they manage to learn from each other through generosity and selflessness.
This is a story about helping others in need. It is a true story of the season. It’s based on The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree Program where kids in need put their Christmas present wishes on paper angels and hang them on a local tree so someone else will “adopt” them for the holiday and the kids get what they want under their own trees even though their parents cannot afford presents. If you haven’t heard of the Angel Tree Program, check it out. Perhaps there is a local tree in your neighborhood where a paper angel is hanging just waiting for someone to pick it off the tree and make a child’s holiday happy and enjoyable.
Paper Angels will premier Sunday, November 16, 2014 on UP.

So, what did we order when we were there? We had the West Coast Seafood Boil and the Southwest Salad and neither one of us had any complaints. They were delicious. The Seafood Boil combines shrimp, clams, mussels, corn, potatoes, and Andouille, chile in a garlic beer broth. The Southwest Salad has grilled chicken, bacon, avocado, corn, pickled jalapeno, pico de gallo, and tortilla strips mixed in a ranch vinaigrette dressing. If you’re a vegetarian like me, you can get the salad without the meat, which I did. I have to say, that ranch vinaigrette is amazing. The salad was delicious.
Okay, for the dessert options. (You know I cannot write about a restaurant without talking about dessert!) I mentioned earlier about their interesting combinations. Well, how about a coconut caramel (salted caramel) sundae? Can you say “Delectable?” My mouth is watering just thinking about it.
