‘Five Date Rule’ streams on UP Faith and Family

Janelle Arthur and Jason Burkey star in the romance Five Date Rule. This 2025 film focuses on online dating, something very common in today’s world.

Hattie (Arthur) is a children’s book author/songwriter/and singer. She is very happy with her life, however her two best friends think she needs a man. So, what do they give her for her birthday present? A subscription to an online dating app.

Hattie is not eager to try this app. She ends up encountering some very weird men after giving it a go. That is the end of that online experience. Or is it?

Henry (Burkey) owns a string of gardening shops, is a widower, and also has a subscription to the app. He had met Hattie in the past but it was just a brief incident. Should he ask her out or let it go? He is not entirely sure he is ready to date again, even though it has been a few years since his wife died.

Hattie and Henry are destined to be together. After all, they both attend the same church, have similar interests, and keep winding up at the same places, although not connecting with each other. So, when Henry decides to ask her out after seeing her in church, Hattie is under the impression he is not single. She has seen him with his sister and her children and thinks they are his wife and kids. Why is this gardener (which she thinks he is) asking her out if he has a family?

Well, there are plenty of misunderstandings to go around. But when things are cleared up, Hattie decides to go on one date with Henry. The thing is, after all those horrible experiences (and they were awful) she previously had with the dating app, her friends insist they tag along.

Spoiler alert (which is obvious to those who love these little romance stories) – Henry and Hattie enjoy each other’s company. And for viewers, Henry is an amazing man who treats Hattie like a Cary Grant character would treat his girlfriend.

So, where does the title “Five Date Rule” come into all of this? It takes five dates to know if someone is worth spending their time with. And after five, well, they can discuss whether another five is in the cards. Guess what they decide?

Hattie, a confirmed single, finally comes to the conclusion, “Life is easier being single, but it doesn’t mean it’s happier.”  And yes, Henry and Hattie are happy together.

This is a cute little story about letting go of what you think your life should be and opening up to what it could be.

Five Date Rule now streams on UP Faith and Family. It is rated PG.

‘The Sisters Grimm’ comes to Apple TV+

Combining family secrets, adventure, and fantasy, The Sisters Grimm is a fun animated series coming to Apple TV+.  Everyone knows the Brothers Grimm. Well, these are descendants of that famous family.

Sabrina and Daphne Grimm (voiced by Ariel Winter and Leah Newman) have been bouncing around from one foster care house to another since their parents have gone missing. When their grandmother learns about them she sends for them to live with her.

The girls are a bit apprehensive at first. Sabrina doesn’t believe this woman, Relda, is her grandmother. But little Daphne is excited to have a grandma.

The town of Ferryport Landing, New York is a bit odd and the girls don’t quite know what to make of it. What they learn is that it was founded by the Brothers Grimm as a sanctuary for magical beings who have been treated unkindly in the outside world. They are known as Everafters. These are the fairy-tale characters we have all known through our lives.

When Sabrina and Daphne learn about their heritage, they are confused. But when a giant kidnaps their grandmother they set out to save her and if they can do that they might be able to find and save their parents. After all, the magic mirror has shown them that their parents are still alive.

The two girls get the help of Puck (from A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Not a Grimm character but he has been part of Ferryport for ages. He’s voiced by Billy Harris). This guy thinks highly of himself and inserts himself in the girls’ adventure.

When they need the assistance of another character, they set out to get Jack (of Jack and the Beanstalk). But is Jack a good guy or a bad guy? And what about Charming (voiced by Abubaker Salim)? He could be a good guy. Then again he could be a not-so-good guy.

Fairies and magical items, not to mention fictional characters we have read about, all combine to create this fantasy show.

The girls have been tasked to use their inner strength that all Grimm’s have. They have inherited cunning, knowledge, and all the skills necessary to help get grandma, make peace with the giants, and basically bring harmony to the town.

But even with these talents and ingenuity, not to mention the help of Puck, there are still things to accomplish that might be too difficult, even for a Grimm.

The first season drops on Apple TV+ October 3, 2025. And there is definitely a cliffhanger that should lead to a second season.

Those who have loved fairy tales and the Brothers Grimm stories will undoubtedly find enjoyment in this series. Who wouldn’t want a house that opens the front door when you say, “House, I’m home”?  Fee Fi Fo Fum. Or, Fee Fi Fo Fun.

Although it is rated TV-G, parents should know that there are scenes of danger and some scary scenes, so keep this in mind.

‘RFK: Legacy’ is a deep-dive into the history of America and the lives and work of RFK and RFK Jr.

The new film from Angel Studios, RFK: Legacy, looks at the history of the United States from the 1960s to today through the lives and legacies of Robert F. Kennedy and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. These two men, father and son, have had an enormous impact on the country, each in their own ways.

Filmmaker Oliver Stone and his son Sean set out to show how the two men elevated themselves and how each of them set out to improve the lives of others. While RFK never made it to the White House himself, his legacy has woven itself through the history of the last half of the 20th century. And the trajectory of RFK Jr. has also impacted the lives of people in this country and around the world with his investigative efforts and subsequent lawsuits.

RFK went to Harvard and then on to the University of Virginia Law School. RFK Jr. went to Harvard and then on to the University of Virginia Law School. It looked as though the son was about to follow in his father’s footsteps, however there were other forces pulling at RFK Jr. that initially led him away from politics and to the environmental field where he used his talents (and sensitivity) to clean up the rivers, take large companies to court for their carcinogenic ingredients, and eliminate mercury from vaccinations.

The life and career of RFK Jr. is told primarily through his interview with Oliver Stone. They also delve deeply into the assassination of his father in 1968, and Bobby as well as comments from those who also investigated the event. The conclusion might be shocking to many viewers, however it makes more sense than the official findings.

And the assassination of President Kennedy takes on a new perspective with the comments by Bobby who explains what his father knew about the events in Dallas and what he wanted to do about it. These facts might be eye-opening for those who believe in the lone gun theory, however with the recent release of files, they are more compelling and truthful.

Looking back at the career of RFK and how the country was in turmoil during his final years, is a history lesson that delves into specific events and situations. The country was deeply divided and RFK, as well as many others, felt he was the only person who could bring it together and make it whole again. But that was not to be.

As his father wanted to unite the country, so did RFK Jr. who took up the mantle, or the torch, but his voice was silenced by the left. Knowing he had much to give to the country, he joined the Trump team and is now the Secretary of Health and Human Services. His mission is “To Make America Healthy Again.” The MAHA movement is getting criticism by the left but that does not dissuade him from continuing to make life better for Americans. As he said, the notion that he is “anti-vax” is not true. He is for vaccinations as long as they have been thoroughly tested and deemed safe, and wants to make that clear.

Bobby Jr. does not shy away from discussing his past drug addiction, and explains how he became addicted and finally sober. His candid interview is refreshing and explains a lot about the man.

So, by combining the lives and careers of both Robert F. Kennedy and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. in this one documentary, complete with films and photos, comments and insight from friends and historians, and the memories and statements from RFK Jr., this film is basically a lesson in the history of the country for the last 60 years as well as the careers and devotion to the country of the two men.

The pursuit of justice and accountability was front and center for Robert Kennedy and is the same for his son. They both faced criticism and were maligned for their views and actions, yet both men put others before themselves.

With the elevation of RFK Jr. on the world stage, the life, career, and assassination of RFK has also been brought to the forefront. Facts, memories, thoughts, and insight combine to bring a well-rounded look at the two men.

Directed by Sean Stone, RFK: Legacy is an important film for today’s audiences. It is mesmerizing, educational, insightful, and captivating.

The film is now streaming on Angel.

60 Years of ‘The Sound of Music’

For those who were alive when the film came out, the memories of seeing The Sound of Music on the big screen for the first (and second, and third…) time are vivid. Not the iconic movie is 60 years old and to commemorate this grand anniversary is a newly remastered edition of the film.

The digital version as well as a 4K UHD and a Blu-ray are available with plenty of bonus features.

The story of Maria, the young almost-nun, who became the governess to the seven von Trapp children has endeared generations of film lovers. Julie Andrews is perfect as the peppy, warm, loving young woman and Christopher Plummer is the perfect Captain von Trapp who falls in love with her.

Loosely based on the story of Maria von Trapp, the film delves into the relationship between Maria and the children and Maria and the Captain. With iconic songs that almost everyone on the planet knows, the movie has entertained both young and old, male and female. It is truly a wonderful film, and now the remastered edition takes the audio and video to a higher level than what many people are used to seeing on TV.

Rogers & Hammerstein wrote the score and the songs have become part of the culture. “Do-Re-Mi” is a classic, as well as “Climb Ev’ry Mountain” and the rest of this unforgettable soundtrack. It has truly become a soundtrack for generations.

Although there are some dark moments in the story dealing with the rise of Hitler, most of the film is light-hearted, musical, and spirited. The Sound of Music is one of the most beloved films as well as musicals of all time.

Some Fun Facts

The filming took place over a period of five months. While the exterior scenes were filmed on location, the majority of the interior scenes were filmed at the Fox Studios in Los Angeles.

The popularity of the film was so great the theatrical run lasted over four and a half years. It grossed more than $100 million and remains the sixth-highest grossing film of all time.

The American Film Institute listed the movie as the 55th greatest American film of all time and the fourth-greatest musical.

The iconic opening scene took a toll on Julie Andrews who kept getting knocked down by the gusts from the helicopter that was filming the scene.

Weather was a factor in some of the external scenes and the “Do-Re-Me” sequence took two months to film.

Look carefully when Julie Andrews sings “I Have Confidence” and you’ll get a glimpse of the real Maria von Trapp.

The restoration team spent nine months restoring this iconic movie for the 60th anniversary. “Our team is honored to care for and re-deliver this classic film to audiences around the world so they can enjoy it in all its originally intended visual and audio glory,” says Kevin Schaeffer, Director, Restoration & Library Management.

Bonus Features

Bonus Features take viewers into the filming locations, the background, and the making of the film. Even the real Maria appears to talk about the von Trapp house, which she felt was absolutely beautiful. The house is outside of Salzburg and not used as the house in the film.

Many locations in Salzburg substituted for the actual settings in the movie. The Nonnberg Abbey, which was built in 715,  however, was used.

Another interesting fact in the featurette is that the real Maria was married in the Abbey but the movie Maria was married in the Basilica of St. Michael in Mondsee, Austria.

The famous gazebo where “Sixteen Going on Seventeen” was filmed was actually built by the studio. After filming, the gazebo was left on the location near the lake, however due to immense tourist interest, it was relocated to another site which was more easily accessible for all the tourists who loved to visit the sites where the movie was made.

There is a 10-year-old documentary, The Sound of a City, with Julie Andrews where she revisited the locations and discusses her memories. This 50-minute documentary is filled with great background information about the cast and the film, not to mention the locations.

  • Disc 1: 4K UHD The Sound of Music + Bonus Features – Sing-Along Version • Commentary by Julie Andrews, Christopher Plummer, Charmian Carr, Dee Dee Wood & Johannes von Trapp • Commentary by Robert Wise

Bring ‘The Fantastic 4: First Steps’ into your home

The Fantastic 4: First Steps is an action-packed story with the group that put Marvel on the map. Now, the heroes have their own movie bringing their stories to the screen.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has fans around the world running to theaters for the latest films, and The Fantastic 4: First Steps has engaged audiences with the story and the characters.

The story is about blending the family life with the heroes’ mission to save Earth from Galactus who wants to take over the planet.

The foursome consists of Mister Fantastic (Reed Richards), Invisible Woman (Sue Storm), Human Torch (Johnny Storm), and The Thing (Ben Grimm).

Besides the story of these four – plus one – there are several bonus features for home viewing fans. The “plus one” is little Franklin (the son of Reed Richards and Sue Storm), who was born in this story. This baby has tremendous power which made him the target of Galactus who wants the baby for his Power Cosmic.

With his life and his mother’s in jeopardy, she makes the ultimate sacrifice for her son. SPOILER ALERT: Franklin uses his power to save his mother and the Fantastic Four.

Bonus Features

There are three featurettes included with this release.

“Meet the First Family” looks at the creation of the Fantastic Four and how it saved the Marvel Comics. Introduced in 1961, these characters have sustained their fans through the years.

The featurette also looks at the casting of the film and how the filmmakers found the perfect family in the actors.

As they say, Marvel is the Fantastic Four and The Fantastic Four is Marvel.

“Fantastic Futurism” looks at how the film depicts the retro-futuristic atmosphere, blending the past with a sci-fi future. They took the mid-century look of Times Square and added all the elements to make it futuristic, but still maintained the feeling of the 1960s. How can they create a futuristic 1960s set combining mid-century buildings, furniture, items, and costumes while adding flying cars, robots, and more? These guys did a fantastic job (pun intended).

“From Beyond and Below” is the third featurette. It focuses on several characters, including Galactus. To make him larger-than-life, the costume was designed meticulously with every detail included in a small size so when the character was “blown up” to his gigantic size on screen, he looked genuine.

Actor Ralph Ineson talks about his role and the costume, which was heavy but bearable. He said it was actually not too uncomfortable, however viewers watching the show might think otherwise. It does look cumbersome but Ineson didn’t mind.

Several Deleted Scenes and a Gag Reel make up the remaining bonus features, along with optional audio commentary by director Matt Shakman and production designer Kasra Farahani.

The Fantastic Four are brought to the screen by Pedro Pascal (Reed Richards), Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben Grimm), and Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm). And yes, there is a sequel in development.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps is available now on Digital, and arrives on 4K, Blu-ray and DVD October 14.

Fans can also bring home the adventure with the Walmart exclusive The Fantastic Four: First Steps pop-up Blu-ray package, featuring a striking slipcover and a dynamic display that springs to life with the team soaring into action in the iconic Fantasticar. This collectible edition pop-up includes the Blu-ray and digital release along with bold, retro-inspired artwork that makes it a must-have for Marvel enthusiasts and collectors alike.

The Fantastic 4: First Steps is rated PG-13 for action/violence and some language.

‘TRON’ and ‘TRON: Legacy’ on digital and coming to 4K

TRON and TRON: Legacy have been restored for fans old and new.

TRON

TRON is a movie phenomenon. It stunned audiences in 1982 with the story and imagery.
When Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges), a computer game creator, is beamed into a digital world, everything is new and confusing. He must play the game he is making in order to get back to his real life.

Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleitner star in this memorable and sci-fi-fan favorite that was nominated for 8 nominations in 1983.

Back in 1983 there were no laptops, cell phones, or any of the technologies we take for granted today. This was indeed a film for the future. But the future is now, at least some of what was portrayed in the original movie. With AI taking over, it’s just a matter of time before TRON is considered outdated, well, maybe.

Bonus features on TRON include “The Tron Phenomenon” in which Jeff Bridges says the film is “a myth for modern time.” He said the whole movie was on the “cutting edge” of everything. The visuals are what fans think of when they think of Tron.

The futuristic world, including the litecycles, completely enthralled audiences when the film debuted in 1982.

In another featurette, writer/director Steven Lisberger discusses looking at the archives and remembering the process and creation of the story and film.

There is a look at the fantasy world and how computers are the people. The “Digital Imagery” bonus describes how the film combined real with digital to create the iconic movie.
There is also a short “making of” bonus and deleted scenes round out the additions to the movie.

TRON: Legacy

The sequel, Tron: Legacy, premiered in 2010 and continued enthralling viewers – especially sci-fi fans. This time, Kevin Flynn’s son Sam (Garrett Hedlund) receives a message from his long-lost father and goes on a high-tech adventure to rescue him.

There are several bonuses including a look at how the imagery of the initial film was what made it unforgettable. There is no doubt audiences back in the 1980s were amazed at what they saw on the screen, and this sequel continues that experience.

Another bonus looks at the iconic vehicles and how they were updated for this film. The vehicles are an important element to the film and story. Casting the characters is another bonus feature.

Disney is not done with the franchise. TRON: Ares hits theaters next month, and yes, Jeff Bridges is back for this one too.

The films

  • TRON was digitally scanned and carefully restored by The Walt Disney Film Restoration team, who corrected dirt, warping, and other imperfections to ensure pristine image quality. The work was supervised by director Steven Lisberger. TRON: Legacy has been remastered in High Dynamic Range from the original digital sources under the supervision of director Joseph Kosinski. Meticulously remastered, both films transport audiences back to the digital frontier with an experience more immersive, dynamic, and visually spectacular than ever before.
  • Available on digital platforms including Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home, the releases showcase breathtaking Dolby Vision picture quality and pulse-pounding Dolby Atmos audio for the ultimate home-viewing experience.
  • TRON and TRON: Legacy will be available to own on 4K Ultra HD Digital and Blu-ray, beginning September 16, 2025. Re-watch the two films before the new film TRON: Ares debuting in theaters October 10, 2025.

The Tron phenomenon has lasted decades and through generations. And that is evident in Walt Disney World with the TRON Lightcycle Run coaster in which guests ride the iconic vehicles through a colorful umbrella, recreating the experience of the characters in the films.

‘Airport’ now in stunning 4K

The iconic 1970 movie Airport started a long list of disaster films. From the best-selling book by Arthur Hailey, the movie stars Burt Lancaster, Dean Martin Jacqueline Bisset, George Kennedy, Helen Hayes, Jean Seberg, Van Heflin, Maureen Stapleton, Barry Nelson, Lloyd Nolan, Dana Wunter, and Barbara Hale. Needless to say, it is an all-star cast.

When a disturbed man sets off a bomb aboard a flight from Chicago (fictional Lincoln airport) to Rome, not only does it affect those on the jetliner, but also on the ground. With pilots Demerest (Martin) and Harris (Nelson) trying to keep the plane steady and return back to Chicago, the airport manager Mel Bakersfeld (Lancaster) is confronting a difficult dilemma on the ground. Another plane slid off the runway in the snowstorm causing the main runway to be shut down as it is stuck part way on the runway. Unfortunately, that is the runway the bomb-damaged flight needs to keep the jetliner in tact when they land.

So, with the help of Joe Patroni (Kennedy) leading the extraction of the stuck plane, Bakersfeld is also confronted by the locals who do not want the other runway to stay open due to the noise the takeoffs generate over their homes. This is just one more item causing him stress as he does his job overseeing the extraction of the stuck plane while hoping the bomb damaged plane will make it back.

And to add to his night, Bakersfeld is dealing with is his failing marriage to his wife (Wynter) who could care less about the problems at the airport. She is only interested in her social engagements that elevate her in society.

Patroni is a fun character who does things his own way and is determined to save the stuck plane while at the same time freeing the runway for the incoming flight.

On board the flight, Demerest is also plagued by the fact he just found out his girlfriend, flight attendant Meighen (Bisset), is pregnant. He has kept his affair from his wife Sarah (Hale), who happens to be Bakersfeld’s sister. And to add to this anguish, Meighen is badly injured from the bomb.

Playing out on the ground is the emotional distress of Inez Guerrero (Stapleton) whose husband (Heflin) is the man who detonated the bomb thinking the insurance she would get from his death would help ease her life. She is completely distraught by what he did.

Now, the fun aspect – yes, there is a fun aspect to this disaster story – is Ada Quonsett (Hayes) who is a perpetual stowaway. Unfortunately for her, she chose the wrong flight on which to stow away this time. She is aboard the tragic plane.

Now, add all of these aspects together and you get a memorable movie with an all star cast combining several interpersonal stories with a tragic incident that could spell doom for an entire plane.

Spoiler alert (if you don’t already know) the plane does return with minimal damage and few casualties.

This is an intriguing story with many interesting characters played out in the air and on the ground. And the soundtrack is definitely worthy of the blockbuster film.

Helen Hayes won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress (1971), and the film was nominated for Best Picture as well as eight other nominations. Maureen Stapleton won the Golden Globe for best supporting actress (1971).

The movie inspired three other Airport films: Airport 1975, Airport ’77, and Airport ’79: The Concord.

The suspense in this film, along with the lives and interactions of the characters, provide an exciting viewing experience. To say it is emotionally-charged and dramatic is an understatement. Even though it is a disaster movie, there are some cute elements that help make it memorable.

Airport is available in a 4K/Blu-ray set from Kino Lorber and other retailers.

‘Vampirina: Teenage Vampire’ comes to Disney Channel and Disney +

Disney viewers probably remember the animated series Vampirina, which aired on Disney Junior for three years. Now this little vampire is growing up and in this live-action series, she faces plenty of challenges as she maneuvers through a new school with new friends.  Shhh…just don’t let them know exactly who she is!

“Vampirina: Teenage Vampire” tells the story of a tween vampire girl who leaves the safety of Transylvania to attend a performing arts boarding school. Living amongst humans for the first time, she pursues her passion for music while keeping her vampire identity a secret, something that’s made more challenging when her overprotective father charges an overzealous ghost to live with her at the school. Vampirina, or “Vee,” is an already beloved character from the popular book saga and the record-breaking Disney Jr. series. “Vampirina: Teenage Vampire” is the first live-action portrayal.

Vampirina: Teenage Vampire debuts on Disney Channel September 12, 2025, and will be available to stream on Disney + beginning October 15. 2025.

Anaheim White House – Elegant and delicious

From the time you drive up to the valet, you know your experience at the Anaheim White House is going to be something special. This Italian Steak House is situated about a five to ten minute drive from the Disneyland Resort. It is fine dining to the 10th degree. The restaurant received the 2025 Restaurant of the Year from The Los Angeles Tribune as well as other honors through the years.

The restaurant used to be a mansion for over 50 years then in 1987 it became a restaurant and has been a favorite among foodies ever since. It is now an historical landmark.

The decor is elegant. White with gold accents and frescos throughout. It is not difficult to imagine the rooms in the actual White House in Washington, D.C. They are that beautiful.

Besides the many rooms inside the house, they have outside seating in an elegant courtyard, and a second building decorated with the same white and gold decor, along with a bar.

So, what is on the menu that is tasty? Everything. They have a wide variety of Appetizers, Caviar, Soup & Salads, Pasta, Pizza, Seafood, Steaks & Meat, and several side dishes. Plus, an amazing array of Desserts. Everything is ala carte.

What did we try?

They start everyone off with some delicious rolls and butter. The bread is wonderful but do not fill up on it as there is plenty more to come.

For our appetizer we shared the Tempura Artichoke Hearts (V and GF). This was amazing.  There are four artichoke hearts in a light tempura batter. They’re topped with Burrata cheese and Italian pesto. My mouth is watering just thinking about it.  Honestly, I could have eaten all four but I wanted to save room for the rest of the meal.

One of our entrees was Pasta Calabrese (V), which is pasta tossed with extra virgin olive oil, artichoke hearts, and seasonal vegetables. This time there was squash and asparagus. All I can say is “wow.”

Another entree was Braised Beef (GF). This consisted of braised beef in a Cabernet Sauvignon reduction. It was served with Horseradish cream and sits on a bed of polenta. Another “wow.”

Dessert was a Banana Tart. It melts in your mouth. Layers of baked puffed pastry, caramelized bananas, chocolate ganache, and Chantilly whipped cream combined to make this a dessert I will happily enjoy again. It is served with crème anglaise and vanilla ice cream with some sliced bananas on the side.

Every dish was plated beautifully. Each dish looked like a work of art. They really go out of their way to make the dining experience something for your eyes and taste buds. Even the napkins are folded to represent the grand experience. They are little tuxedo jackets, however there is no dress code so no tuxedos or black tie is necessary. Just clean, presentable attire.

This is a destination for various parties, special events, banquets, and weddings. It is that grand.

If you are in Southern California and in the mood for an elegant and delicious meal, check it out. And if you are visiting the Disneyland Resort, you might want to go off property for a very special dinner.

And, yes they have a children’s menu for kids 12 and under. Children under 5 eat free with an adult entree purchase.

The Anaheim White House is located at 887 S. Anaheim Blvd., in Anaheim, California. (714) 772-1381.

I highly recommend this restaurant.

Their hours are:

Wed & Thu:  5:00 PM to 9:30 PM
Fri & Sat:  5:00 PM to 10:00 PM
Sunday:  5:00 PM to 9:30 PM
Mon & Tue: Closed

There are too many other dishes to list, however the variety of food is immense. Their menu is on their website. The history of the location as well as their charitable causes are also worth reading on the website.
