‘Heartstrings Attached’ combines music and food in an uplifting story.

If you’re looking for a sweet little movie to entertain you on a lonely day, check out Heartstrings Attached.

Emma (Morgan) is a cook in a small diner, with the dream of opening her own Michelin Star restaurant someday. She grew up as a violin prodigy but her heart was not in music. It was and is in the culinary world, to the dismay of her grandfather.

One day she is approached by her grandfather’s attorney Ned (Joseph Moreland). He informs her that her grandfather has passed away and she needs to meet with him to discuss the will.

What Emma discovers is that she has inherited everything, which amounts to a large fortune. There is, however, one stipulation.

Emma must coach Ava (Natalie Miller), a twelve year old violin prodigy who is preparing for an audition to a music academy. There is one month left before the audition. If Emma can help Ava with her confidence and her playing and get her accepted into the academy, then Emma will inherit the fortune. She cannot, however, let either Ava or her father Andrew (Chris Connell) know about why she is helping.

Well, if you know UP Faith and Family, you already know that there will be an attraction between Emma and Andrew. That is a given. But it is a surprise to Emma who had never thought of being placed in a family situation. She grew up without a mother but finds relating to this young girl easy and fun. And she is just what they need, since Andrew lost his wife several years earlier.

Emma is a kind soul. She helps her neighbor in ways that go beyond just being neighborly. And when she opens her restaurant, whenever that might be, she intends on donating the leftovers to a homeless shelter.

As Emma gets closer to Ava and Andrew, the three become a pseudo-family. But what will happen when they   find out she is helping Ava to get her fortune?

This is indeed a nice little story, but there is more to it than simply having Emma help Ava get accepted to the academy. And when she finds out the final stipulation in the will, things get a little complicated. Nevertheless, of course, there is a happy ending for everyone, which is exactly why we watch these movies. And this one does not disappoint.

Heartstrings Attached comes with an advisory for viewers who are sensitive about the loss of a loved one. Otherwise, it is an appealing story that is perfect for a rainy afternoon.  The movie streams on UP Faith and Family.

‘A Royal Icing Christmas’ is fun and flavorful

One of the new holiday films from Great America Media is a flavorful story filled with fun, romance, and joy. A Royal Icing Christmas stars Ellise Roth as Princess Charlotte of Marovia, who goes on a journey to find herself, and her true love.

Charlotte loves her family and her country, but not her life. She is about to be betrothed to her friend, the heir to another country. Their marriage has been set since they were kids. The problem is, Charlotte does not love David and he does not love her. Nevertheless, he wants to go ahead with their betrothal due to duty. Charlotte has other plans.

When her best friend Kate (Kimm Dizdari), the daughter of the royal baker, enters a baking contest in New England, Charlotte decides to escape from her royal life and go with Kate to America. With laid-back clothing (which she has never worn), sunglasses, and some trickery, Charlotte and Kate jet off to America for a few weeks of life away from the castle.

Charlotte, now calling herself Charlie, immediately meets Luke (Callum Buckley). Luke’s family owns an inn. Unfortunately, there are no rooms available but Luke’s niece Lily (Siena Cutone) offers to lend Charlie her own room. Lily is enthralled with all things “princess” and magic. While no one knows Charlie’s real identity, there is something different about her and the entire family is taken with this young woman, especially Luke.

Charlie and Kate both enter the baking contest and the delicacies they come up with are mouth-watering. Charlotte truly enjoys baking, which is something she couldn’t let her parents know back in the castle. Now, as Charlie, she is free to be herself and do what she loves.

As they become more acquainted with each other, Luke and Charlie discover their mutual attraction. But what will he think of her when he finds out she has been deceiving them all?

True love wins out, as if you didn’t know that was going to happen. Nevertheless, this is really a cute story with two enchanting characters. They are each fun in their own way.

Keep your eyes on Siena. Her character of Lily is absolutely adorable!

The movie is a bit like the story of The Prince and Me, although opposite. In that movie the prince left his country anonymously to go to America to have new experiences. In A Royal Icing Christmas the princess leaves her country to do much the same thing.

For the first time in her life Charlotte is finding out who she really is, absent the fancy clothes and the rules she has had to live by her entire life. As she becomes more secure in herself, she is truly a fun person and a delight to watch. And the onscreen chemistry between Roth and Buckley is striking.

A Royal Icing Christmas begins streaming on Great American Pure Flix October 23, 2025, and on Great American Family and GFAM+ on October 25, 2025.

‘Freakier Friday’ is now available for home viewing

In 2003, Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan starred in the comedy Freaky Friday which has become a classic among fans of several generations. They return in this latest chapter, Freakier Friday, where they once again find themselves in someone else’s body, which freaks them out – again. What makes this new film “freakier” is that they are not the only people that change bodies.

Anna (Lohan) is a single parent to Harper (Julia Butters) and is being helped by her mother Tess (Curtis). Harper is an easy-going girl who loves to surf. Harper’s arch enemy at school is Lily (Sophia Hammons), a rather snooty British girl who is only in America for a year while her father Eric (Manny Jacinto) is opening his newest restaurant.

When Anna and Eric meet in the principal’s office after their daughters caused a ruckus, there is an instant attraction. As the months go by, their attraction grows into love and then an upcoming marriage.

The thought of being step-sisters infuriates the girls. Neither one of them is happy about the union. Where will they live? London or Los Angeles? They are miserable.

Then, just like in the 2003 film, they magically wake up one day to find they are in someone else’s body. Harper is in her mother’s body, Anna is in Harper’s body, and Tess is in Lily’s body, while Lily is in Tess’ body. So this is a double whammy.

Living in the body of Tess, the grandmother in the story,  is very strange for this teenager. When Tess and Ryan are in the pickle ball tournament, well, that’s something to see as this British girl who has never picked up a racket, must try to fake-it on the court.

Living in her mother’s body is eye-opening for Harper. She discovers how much her mother loves her. And soon Lily, living as Tess, realizes how much her dad loves Anna. But can they all be happy as one family?

But how can they change back? A fortune teller told them, “Change the hearts you know are wrong to reach the place where you belong.”

The girls decide to work together to break up their parents. After all, if they change their parents’ hearts then they will return to their rightful bodies. Right? Spoiler alert – NO.

The bonus features on the Digital and Blu-ray include several deleted scenes. While some are fun, the filmmakers decided they were not relevant to the final film.

There are three featurettes. One brings viewers into the making of the film, the stunts, and how the actors learned the mannerisms of the different characters in order to live as someone else.

Another featurette looks back at the 2003 film as the cast reflects on that experience and bringing their characters back for this sequel. They also discuss how Freaky Friday is a classic with a loyal fanbase.

There is a look a the two films with some fun facts and a music video of the original song in this film.

While Freaky Friday is a wonderful comedy, Freakier Friday is fun but lacks much of the cuteness of the original. It will, however, be enjoyed by viewers who have waited 22 years to see the characters they love come back to the screen.

Mark Harmon returns as Ryan and Chad Michael Murray returns as Jake. So, the whole gang is back together, with two new additions.

Freakier Friday is now available on Digital and will be available on DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K Ultra HD beginning November 11, 2025.

It’s interesting to note, the 2003 film was a remake of a popular 1976 movie of the same name starring Jodie Foster and Barbara Harris. Check it out if you can find it somewhere. It is also a fun film.

Freakier Friday is rated PG for thematic elements, rude humor, language, and some suggestive references.

Bring home ‘Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning’

What is touted as the final film in the franchise, Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning, once again has Tom Cruise in daring situations that amaze and entertain viewers. Cruise steps back into the shoes of Ethan Hunt in this daring adventure that could mean the end of the world.

Technology is a blessing and a curse, and in this story it is definitely a curse. In today’s world we know that AI is intelligent and always “learning.” The storyline in this film has an AI, known as the Entity, planning to take over all of the world’s nuclear missiles with the intent on ending humanity once and for all. When that is accomplished this Entity will be the only power and able to control everything that is to come.

Hunt and his team are not about to let that happen. There is a bit of a convoluted story about how they have to acquire separate items in order to trap the Entity. This story takes them around the world to the UK, Norway, and South Africa.

Hunt’s team consists of Grace (Hayley Atwell), a brilliant pickpocket, Benji (Simon Pegg), a tech wiz, Paris (Pom Klementieff), Degas (Greg Tarzan Davis), and Luther (Ving Rhames). Esai Morales returns as Gabriel who is also trying to get the items to take over control of the Entity. Angela Bassett plays the President of the United States who has a difficult decision with her hand literally on the nuclear button.

The movie is intense – and long! at 2 hours and 49 minutes, there are several scenes that go on, and on, and on. The water scene, for instance, could have been cut in half. But being the final film in the franchise (as it is supposed to be) it was probably Director Christopher McQuarrie’s intent to keep viewers on the edge of their seats as long as possible.

Cruise has mentioned that this is his last MI film, however there have been rumblings in Hollywood that there could be more, with or without Cruise. That doesn’t bode well for fans of the franchise and fans of Tom Cruise. When Sean Connery relinquished his role as James Bond, the franchise continued with several more actors taking on the role of 007.

That doesn’t mean another actor would step into the shoes of Ethan Hunt. There could be a completely different MI team in the future, however it is more likely this is definitely the finale for Mission Impossible. It is interesting to contemplate. After all, Mission Impossible originated in 1966 as a TV series that ran for seven seasons.

So, with all the high-flying (literally) stunts, the deep dive (literally) into the frozen arctic waters, and more intense situations, Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning has all the ingredients of its predecessors. It is everything MI fans want and expect.

The Bonus Features

With several bonus featurettes, viewers see behind the scenes of the making of the film and how extraordinary the intense sequences were to not only imagine but also to create and execute.

“I love flying,” Cruise states. In one scene the actor had to hang off a bi-plane and maneuver himself inside the cockpit. This sequence is described as “unique” and “classic.” They had to rebuild vintage planes to specifications that would withstand everything they were put through. There is no doubt this scene will be part of Hollywood history.

For the underwater sequence they built a special tank, which was huge. The frame of a submarine had to fit inside along with a specially built rotating gimbal that was lowered into the tank. This was a challenging part of the film, but one they managed to create to perfection.

Filming in the arctic, as they say “on top of the world,” was another challenge with temperatures in the minus forties. Can you say “brrrr?”

And there had to be a car chase. After all, what would an MI film be without one? This time they set the vehicles underground.

To say they went beyond what they had done in the past with all the thrilling and chilling (literally) sequences is an understatement. Watching the bonuses puts into perspective the dedication, creativity, and vision of the entire team of filmmakers. This is one momentous way to conclude the franchise.

The 4K Ultra HD steel-book comes with a 4K disc, a Blu-ray disc, and a disc filled with bonus features, as well as a Digital Code. The film is also available on a DVD.

Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning is rated PG-13 for sequences of strong violence and action, bloody images, and brief language.

‘Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale’ is the end of the saga

After 15 years it is time to say goodbye to the Crawleys and their friends and staff. The last movie, Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale, brings many changes to the Abbey and everyone.

The year is now 1930. Times are changing inside the house, and outside as well.

The beginning of the story focuses on Lady Mary’s divorce, which brands her persona non grata in their social circles. A divorced woman is a pariah for the socialites of England in 1930. Interesting enough, just six years later the King would abdicate to marry a divorced woman.

As Mary deals with her new social standing, or lack thereof, the rest of the family and staff also face their futures which are quite different from what they – and the viewers – are used to.

Carson is retiring and turning the helm of Downton over to Andy Parker. Mrs. Patmore is retiring and turning the kitchen over to Daisy Parker. There are other big changes happening in the household as well.

The biggest change is Lord Robert Grantham’s position in the house. He fights it at first, but Cora helps him realize that Mary is ready to take over. It seems the times are really changing and everyone must deal with their new positions in life.

An interesting addition to the story is that of Noël Coward who helps to bring the household, family, and their social circle into the modern age. His presence alone gives Mary a boost up in their eyes. And for viewers who are not too familiar with Noël Coward, they might just do some research into his plays and stories. His personality and wit add to the story, as does the reappearance of Guy Dexter.

The final scene includes archival footage of the past as well as a sweet look at the late Maggie Smith whose presence as the Dowager Countess is sorely missed, but who has passed on her love of family and Downton to the next generations.

The cast is the same but the times have brought them all into a new era, past the roaring 20s and into the changing 30s. Hugh Bonneville, Laura Carmichael, Jim Carter, Raquel Cassidy, Paul Copley, Brendan Coyle, Michelle Dockery, Kevin Doyle, Michael Fox, Joanne Froggatt, Robert James-Collier, Allen Leech, Phyllis Logan, Elizabeth McGovern, Sophie McShera, Lesley Nicol, and Penelope Wilton have brought their characters to viewers for 15 years and each have a grand finale in this film. Also, Paul Giamatti rejoins the story as Cora’s brother and Arty Froushan portrays Noël Coward.

While the movie itself is a good ending to the saga, the bonus features add so much for fans to enjoy.

  • “Changing Times” – This is a fun look at how the characters have changed and are embracing the modern times. The cast and filmmakers look at the story and describe how the characters are set to move on and embrace their new lives.
  • “Society Season” – This is a look at the summer season in London where the British high society gather for plays, parties, and to be seen at the balls. Particular events are discussed. Lady Petersfield’s Ball with the lavish gowns, looks at the wonderful costumes as well as the story weaving through the ball. Ascot also looks at the costumes befitting the elaborate horserace. Because the real Ascot has been modernized and would not fit into the era of the film, they found another location to double as Ascot. The County Show is another big part of the film. It is like a county fair.
  • “Authentic to the Core” – Bringing the story alive to depict the authenticity of 1930 was not a small task. The costumes and events were researched to make sure the details were historically authentic.
  • “A Farewell to Fans” – The fans of Downton Abbey have stuck with the characters for fifteen years. In this bonus the cast and filmmakers share experiences and messages from the fans who have supported them through the years.
  • “DOWNTON ABBEY Celebrates THE GRAND FINALE” – Join Hugh Bonneville and the cast for high-tea at The Savoy. This is a delightful feature looking back at the lives of the characters, the cast’s stories and memories, a look at the music that made the scenes unforgettable, and a finale that fans might just tear up over. It’s time to say good-bye.

Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale is now available on digital platforms and will be available on 4K Ultra Hd and Blu-ray beginning November 11, 2025. “Downton Abbey: The Ultimate Legacy Collection” is a treasure for fans. This Blu-ray set includes a 52-page book as well as 24 discs with the 6 seasons of the TV show and the three films. It’s the ultimate collection for fans of the show.

‘Where the Wind Blows’ is a Western romance drama

Where the Wind Blows is an intense Western drama/romance story taking place in the late 1800s. Cowboys Nathan (C. Thomas Howell) and Chase (Trevor Logan) have been out on the range for awhile. When Nathan is killed, Chase takes it on himself to ride back to give the news to his widow Jessie (Ashley Elaine).

This task takes a toll on the tough cowboy, but his soft side soon emerges. He is a rough and tough cowboy on the exterior, but on the interior he has a good heart.

Jessie is saddened by the loss of her husband but not to the degree Chase expected. There is something amiss with their marriage, which he will discover later on.

In the meantime, Jessie asks a big favor of this stranger. She is intent on adopting a young girl named Sarah, and without a husband it is impossible. Jessie asks him to pose as Nathan until the papers are signed. Then he can go on his way.

Chase is honorable and refuses to be part of this deception, however when he sees the love in her eyes for Sarah, he relents. Soon Jessie has the family she has desperately wanted. But besides the girl the couple adds a boy to the adoption.

With the papers signed, Chase is free to go about his life, however circumstances intervene and soon he is back with Jessie and the two young ones, pretending to be a happy family. And they are a happy family, however they are not a legal family.

While they are living their lives a spark ignites between Jessie and Chase. (You didn’t see that coming, did you?) Their lives are happy until two criminals interrupt their peaceful existence.

It is now up to Chase to find a way to keep them all together – and alive.

The wide-open country and the old Western towns add ambiance to the story as the characters face obstacles until – spoiler alert – things ultimately work out for them.

The film is based on the book which is part of the “Prairie Hearts Series” by Caroline Fyffe. Whether more books in the series will find their way onto the screen is not known.

Where the Wind Blows opens in theaters and on demand October 24, 2025. The film is rated PG-13 for violence, bloody images, and suggestive material.

‘Sunset Boulevard’ now on 4K-UHD

The 1950 classic Sunset Boulevard is now available in 4K for the ultimate viewing experience in honor of its 75th anniversary.  Stars William Holden, Gloria Swanson, and Nancy Olson were nominated for Academy Awards as was Director Billy Wilder and several others. All in all, this film garnered 11 Academy Award nominations, with three wins.

William Holden stars as Joe Gillis, an out-of-work screenwriter who holds onto the dream of writing another great script. He is out of work, in debt, and out of luck. When his car blows a tire, he sees an empty garage in an old dilapidated mansion and pulls in, hoping to be able to use the phone.

The mansion is owned by Norma Desmond (Swanson), a former giant in the movies. Her silent films were treasured by audiences around the world. Norma has been living alone with her loyal assistant Max (Erich von Stroheim). She has no grasp on reality.
When she sees this stranger and learns he is a writer, she begs him to edit a screenplay she has written for her big comeback. At first he declines, but she is insistent. And, Joe desperately needs the money.

Another thing she demands is that he lives at the mansion. He is reluctant but does so. And little by little Norma begins taking over his life.

Soon Joe is a kept man. He is well dressed, well fed, but has nothing of his own. However, as he gets to know Norma, he feels closer to her and somewhat sorry for her.

As the two become joined at the hip, Joe feels the pang of wanting his old life back and soon begins writing a script with the help of his old friend’s fiancé Betty (Olson). He must sneak out of the house at night to keep this secret from Norma.

The movie is as intriguing as Norma is psychologically disturbed. She is a sociopath, narcissist, and completely unhinged. Being in black and white adds to the drama.

The movie is a classic. Cecil B. DeMille, Hedda Hopper, Buster Keaton, and several others make appearances in this tragic story of old Hollywood. It has even wormed itself into the lexicon of today with the phrase, “Mr. DeMille, I’m ready for my closeup.”

Sunset Boulevard is now available from Paramount Home Entertainment on 4K (with Blu-ray and Digital Code). It is not rated however it is not for young viewers.
