‘My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2’ on Combo Pack

greekwedding2
The sequel to the hit 2002 movie My Big Fat Greek Wedding is now available on Combo Pack. My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 reunites the entire cast from the original film in a story that has the entire gang preparing for another big wedding.

Toula (Nia Vardalos) and Ian (John Corbett) are living a happy life with their teenage daughter Paris (Elena Kampouris). However Paris is not so happy. She is a typical teen who wants to spread her wings but her parents are overprotective and she feels her entire Greek family is smothering her.

That is only part of this story. The wedding part comes in when Toula’s parents Gus (Michael Constantine) and Maria (Lainie Kazan) discover they are not legally married. While Gus wants to get married immediately, Maria waits for a proper proposal, and even after that she still has her doubts about marrying the man with whom she has spent the last several decades.

Toula always wants to fix everything in her family and dedicates her life to them and especially to her daughter. Ian feels cast aside at times. After all, living in this big Greek family is daunting and overwhelming. But he loves them and especially his wife and daughter.

Vardalos wrote this film and gathered the entire cast together again for another romantic comedy. Even her real life husband, Ian Gomez, returns as Ian Miller’s good friend. And Andrea Martin is just as pushy as ever as Aunt Voula.

While this is a good attempt at a sequel, it falls short of the fun and entertainment of the original, which was also written by Vardalos.

Bonus features on the disc include a gag reel and a “making of” featurette. The cast discusses reuniting for this sequel and the fun they had on the original and this film. What is amazing is that the whole cast from 2002 agreed to return and they all have a cute storyline, even though some of them (like Ian’s parents) are small.

If you loved the first film, you might not enjoy this one as much. The first had more comedy and entertainment but there are still some funny parts to this movie. It’s fun to see the characters again. Perhaps there will be a third film in this franchise. It’s up to Vardalos. Does she have another story to tell? We’ll see in the future. Maybe someone else in her family will get married? Joey Fatone’s Angelo character has some surprises in store for viewers.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 is rated PG-13 for some suggestive material.

‘American Girl: Lea to the Rescue’ on Combo Pack and DVD

lea
Maggie Elizabeth Jones stars in the new American Girl movie, American Girl: Lea to the Rescue. Jones plays Lea Clark, a feisty, strong-minded ten year-old with a great imagination and a penchant for adventure.

Lea adores her older brother Zac (Connor Dowds) and is jealous of his new girlfriend Paula (Laysla De Oliveira). They both work in Brazil. When Zac confides in Lea that he is hot on the trail of poachers, she is excited. But when he goes missing, Lea and her mother (Hallie Todd), head down to Brazil to find him.

While her mother is waiting for her husband to meet them in Brazil, she is working with the police. Lea feels helpless just sitting in the apartment so she enlists Paula to help track down Zac. She uses his notebook to search for clues and when they lead her to the Amazon, she runs into the Rainforest with Paula on her trail.

The two discover a young Amazon girl, Aki (Storm Reid), who takes them to her tribe. It’s there where Lea learns that her grandmother had once saved the tribe. All the stories she had heard about her grandmother were true after all. The tribe agrees to help her find her brother.

Eventually, the clues lead them back to town where the poachers are holding Zac. Lea and Paula put their lives on the line to save Zac.

This little girl barely thinks twice about the danger she faces while searching for her brother. She is brave and spunky. And the story is about girl power.

Bonus features on the DVD include a look at how they filmed the movie. Also, Jones talks about how excited she is being an American Girl. Another bonus shows the animatronics of the adorable little sloth in the film.

The costume designer discusses the look of Lea. In the film she dresses like an American Girl doll and her clothes are duplicates of the American Girl clothes. They can be purchased for the doll and matching outfits for girls from the American Girl website or store.

American Girl: Lea to the Rescue is a great movie for girls. Lea (and Jones) show just how much girls can do. Jones performed the stunts herself, showing her tenacity and girl power of both her character and herself. Maggie Elizabeth Jones is adorable and talented – two traits that will definitely take her far in the business. She is a fun little actress to watch and her future looks bright.

NuFACE mini Product Review

First of all, let me say I am a skeptic when it comes to products that tout amazing results. So when NuFACE sent me their NuFACE mini facial toning device, I wasn’t expecting any great results. But I am very surprised and impressed with this device. It does work.

NuFACE mini has lived up to the hype. The first time I used it I saw results and after several days, others saw results on my face as well. The device says it is a 5 Minute Facelift. For those of us that could use a little fine-tuning and freshening, this fits the bill. And not only does it tone the facial muscles, it makes skin look healthier. Someone just told me my skin looks great, and it really does.

So how does this device work? It uses microcurrent technology, which is a soft wave. This stimulates the skin and the underlying muscles.

To use the NuFACE mini, when you first open the box charge the device for 16 hours. Then wash your face with an oil-free cleanser and make sure all makeup and creams have been removed from your face. Then lightly spread the Gel Primer to one cheek and jawline. Turn on the device and set it to the strength you want. There are three settings. I started with the highest and have not had any problems however some people might feel more comfortable starting at a lower setting. The next step is to place the device on your jawline and slowly glide it up to your ear. Then repeat that a little higher on your cheek and one more time just a little higher. Repeat these steps three times. The next step is the forehead area. All the instructions are provided in the box, however this link will show exactly how to use the NuFACE.

The company says the microcurrent technology began as a medical treatment for atrophied facial muscles. What I have found after using the unit for a little while is that my face looks tighter and my skin looks smoother and softer. And it is smooth to the touch. As I mentioned earlier, others have commented on the appearance of my skin so this device is definitely doing something. I have also noticed a slight lift in my forehead and cheek. As a matter of fact, the smile lines are noticeably reduced. And yes, I am surprised.

I wouldn’t say the NuFACE mini is a replacement for a facelift, if you are thinking about surgery, however if you just need a little freshening, I feel this is worth trying.

The NuFACE has been approved by the FDA for use on the face.

Tim Tebow for Fox TV’s “Home Free”

mike_tim_135_hires2
Reality television has become a battleground of petty quarrels, in-house alliances, and back-biting. Offering a reprieve from the nonsense, along with a generous dose of altruism and inspiration the second season of Fox-TV’s Home Free premiers June 16, 2016.

Produced by the folks from Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, the formula has been changed slightly from last year’s summer run. For starters, quarterback Tim Tebow has been brought in as cohost with Atlanta-based builder Mike Holmes, and the contestants are participating to win one of the refurbished homes for their personal heroes, be it a parent, mentor, a good Samaritan who donated a kidney, or a war hero in Afghanistan. What contestants were unaware of at the onset of their commitment is that none of their designated “heroes” will walk away empty-landed.

Promoting the series, the Heisman Trophy winner Tebow participated in a recent press conference. Excerpts of that session follow, beginning with what drew him to the production.

“I think when I really began to understand the stories, and how the contestants really had a chance to change the lives of the heroes, I think that’s what really gripped me. To really understand the narrative of it, it’s people loving and sacrificing for other people to make a difference in their live. When I heard that I knew it was something that would be a lot of fun to be a part of,” said Tebow.

What does he hope people will take away after watching the series?

“I think people are going to watch it, and they’re going to see that it’s probably the biggest build show America’s ever seen. So if they like building, it has a lot of that. It has so much competitiveness, really fierce competition. It’s obviously got its fair share of drama, but I think, more than anything I want them to take away that it can be cool to be able to love and sacrifice for other people.

“I personally believe that it’s more blessed to give than to receive. Whether it’s your money, your time, your energy, your effort, whatever it is, it’s worth it. People need help, and they need hope. Sometimes that’s as little as a hug, and sometimes it can be as much as giving away a home. That’s something that it shows every single week in the series,” he explained.

While the 28-year-old two-time national champion and first round NFL draft pick readily admits, “I’m not a builder,” Tebow concedes, “One of the things I tried to do was help all of the contestants, believing in them and supporting them, giving encouragement and sometimes a pat on the back.”

At a time when daily media reports highlight the very worst in human behavior, Tebow feels Home Free is the perfect antidote. “This seems like this is a perfect time for this show. It can possibly inspire a lot of people and one that families can watch together.

“There are a lot of heroes walking around amongst us, and so many times that don’t get thanked. They don’t get supported, and what they do goes unnoticed. I think that this show really tried to thank them and say, we appreciate what you’ve done, and the sacrifice. That might be someone just helping cancer patients get out of bed every day and go for a walk, or it could be our military saving people on the battlefield. There’s such a wide spectrum.”

On the subject of heroes, who are Tebow’s own personal choices? His father, Robert Tebow II, and mother, Pamela, definitely qualify as heroes for their commitment to the Biblical principles they so avidly embrace.

While serving as Baptist missionaries in the Philippines, Pamela contacted amoebic dysentery and lapsed into a coma, prior to her pregnancy. On the mend, she discovered she was pregnant. The medicines used to treat her illness resulted in fetus severe placental absorption. The prognosis was grim. Doctors predicted that her baby would be stillborn. Refusing the physicians’ advice to undergo an abortion, she hung on and the perfectly healthy Tim entered the world on Aug. 14, 1987 in Manila.

Sharing his parents’ values, Tebow established the Tim Tebow Foundation, which strives to fulfill the dreams of terminally ill youngsters, along with building Timmy’s Playrooms in children’s hospitals. The college football analyst for SEC Network also sponsors a Night to Shine nationwide prom for people with special needs.

As a follow-up to his 2011 bestselling memoir Thought My Eyes, the sequel Shaken will be released in the coming months.

‘The Jim Gaffigan Show’ Season 2 Returns to TV Land on June 19

"The Trial" (Airs 6/19, 10:30pm)
When I watched the first season of The Jim Gaffigan Show, I figured the character Jim (played by Gaffigan) is a more expanded version of Andy Franklin in My Boys (TBS, 2006-10). In case you’ve never heard of My Boys, Andy was the only married guy among a gang of singles who get together frequently for poker games, pick-up softball games, etc. Andy was a family guy who was tired “like an old man” and used his wife as an excuse to leave them.

Well, I guess Gaffigan always sticks to what he knows – comedy career, family, and his obsession with food. The Jim Gaffigan Show, written and produced by Jim & Jeannie Gaffigan, follows the Gaffigans in Manhattan – Jim, Jeannie (played by Ashley Williams in the show) and the five children. His constant desire for food and naps takes precedence over any other aspects of his life, but fortunately he has a very loving and unhinged wife and the quietest kids I’ve ever seen. Maybe these kids are what Gaffigan wishes he had in real life, I wonder.

Jim is not fazed by constant nitpicking by Dave (Adam Goldberg), his delusional character actor wannabe friend. The only bizarre element of this show is Jeannie’s gay ex-boyfriend Daniel (Michael Ian Black), who seems to be in the Gaffigan’s kitchen all the time bragging, whining, and sniping at Jim. The couples’ good-naturedness is surprising since most of New Yorkers as well as comedians come across as an angry bunch.

However, this semi-autobiographical show will take us to a different place this season. It’ll no doubt be full of food, but also plenty of food for thought. You will agree with Jim when he blurts out, “What kind of world are we living in?”
