Often compared to kids’ music legends such as Raffi, award-winning musician Vincent Nunes has, since 1991, forged a musical path that reflects his commitment to early childhood learning and deep respect for children’s innate intelligence. Vincent Nunes not only sings on Smart Songs for Active Children, he also plays piano, B-3 organ, bass, acoustic guitar, and accordion. “Washboard Dave” Paprocki, a street busker, adds his wonderful, quirky rhythms to half the album’s tracks, playing tin can, wooden shoe, soda bottle, bundt pan, and vintage washboard.  Percussionist Emmet Basha enhanced his standard drum set with udu, jembe, conga, and other African drums to add an international sound.

Not all heroes are Superman.  Most are ordinary people doing extraordinary things.  Many are known the world over but many live down the street quietly doing something great.  All have accomplished things that deserve to be celebrated, praised – and set to music.  American Heroes #4 is Jonathan Sprout’s fourth musical celebration of some of the best among us, including Dr. Seuss, Juliette Gordon Low, Walt Disney, Albert Einstein, Roberto Clemente, Mary McLeod Bethune, Samantha Smith, Rachel Carson, Theodore Roosevelt and William Penn.  The CD has a big, bold sound – filled with rock, pop, Latin and gospel rhythms; strong, vibrant lead vocals; full, expressive background vocals; and remarkable choices of instrumentation and production.  History comes alive as the CD makes the statement: this is a party about heroes!
