Golden Globes Red Carpet Style Lounge 2020

We all know that actors get a lot of swag. This year the awards season kicks off with the Golden Globes and a pre-GG gifting lounge attracted several notables who were treated to a variety of great products.

Secret Room Events hosted a gifting suite and some of those attending were Brian Cox who was nominated for a Golden Globe for his performance in Succession, Mike Moh from Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, London Brown from Ballers, Craig DiFrancia from The Irishman, Francesco Bauco from Ford v Ferrari, and many others.

The gift bags were large with everything from body creams to Stevia to sun lotion and even salad dressing clothing, and a really cool baby stroller.

Check out these photos from the event (Photos by Jc Olivera/VipEventPhotography.com)

So now you know that the hype is true. Yes, celebs really do get a lot of swag. Win or lose, these celebs took home a great haul, but I know they would really like to take home a Golden Globe as well!

New collector series from Disney for 2020

Last year brought the Disney Wisdom collection to fans of the classic Disney films with various characters and classic quotes to uplift and inspire. This year it is Minnie Mouse who is the center of attention all year long. In the Minnie Visits Disney Parks collection, every third Saturday of each month Minnie will highlight a classic attraction from one of the Disney Parks. Each month will contain a special Minnie plush commemorating the attraction, a special Minnie Mouse headband, a mug, a pin set, a magic band, and either a backpack or waist pack, all designed to highlight with Minnie’s specially selected attraction.

January 18 kicks of 2020 with Minnie celebrating Space Mountain, an attraction not for the faint of heart. However, if you have always admired the beauty of the exterior but cannot get your nerves up to take the journey through Space Mountain, don’t worry. Minnie will help you celebrate the fan favorite ride in style. And we all know she is a style icon. Minnie has a spacy dress with lots of sparkle on the sleeves and her hears Her head is adorned with a bow and a space-age design, as is the headband.

The pin set includes a replica of Minnie, her headband, and the attraction itself. The spacey-shaped mug also has an image of Space Mountain, as does the backpack.

Here are the attractions Minnie will be stylizing this year:

If you want all of them, make sure you put your order in quickly when they arrive. Last year’s collection went quickly and it looks as though Minnie’s fans will undoubtedly want to pick up her entire collection. If you only want to commemorate your favorite attractions, check the calendar for the release of that. I’m personally looking forward to March when Minnie will be styled to highlight the iconic Tea Cups, and April when she pays tribute to It’s a Small World. I can only imagine what she will be wearing in October when she takes on the Haunted Mansion!

Whether you want them all or simply a few, this new series will only be around for 2020.

Disney Animators’ Collection Mega Figurine Set

If you’re looking for a last minute gift for the holidays, the newest Animators’ Collection Mega Figurine Set just might be the answer. It combines 20 characters and the presentation box is almost as adorable as the figurines.

Each plastic figurine is about 3 3/4” high. The size varies on their poses. Moana and Lilo are sitting so they are not as tall as the rest of the group. This collection includes some of the characters that were in past collections, with some new ones added.

The group this year includes:

  • Aurora
  • Ariel
  • Eric
  • Moana
  • Wendy
  • Lilo
  • Alice
  • Cinderella
  • Mulan
  • Aladdin
  • Rapunzel
  • Pocahontas
  • Boo
  • Snow White
  • Merida
  • Tiana
  • Belle
  • Mulan
  • Elena
  • Tinker Bell

Each character sits or stands on a round platform making them easy to place on shelves, however they are also easy to hold. The outfits are beautifully done to represent the characters and their poses are adorable.

While they come attractively packaged in a box with a carrying handle, the individual characters pop out of their molded plastic holder. Taking them out does require an adult as they need to be snipped from their tether and gently pulled out of the plastic molded holder. But once they are out of the box and free they provide endless hours of fun and creativity as the characters interact with each other. The only limitation is the child’s imagination.

Wendy and Tink can play together or with the others. Hopefully the folks at Disney will come up with Peter Pan next time around.

And now Ariel has Prince Eric to interact with. Will the sea witch be coming next time?

The detailing in the figurines makes this set attractive for both collectors as well as children. Due to the size of the dolls this is for ages 3+. I wish they had this set when I was a child!

‘Santa Fake’ on DVD

Santa Fake is a new holiday film filled with music, love, and plenty of holiday spirit. It is a sentimental and endearing story for the entire family.

When Pat (Damian McGinty) was born he was placed in an orphanage in his country of Ireland. One of Santa’s helpers discovered this little lad he knew what was in his heart so he made sure that Santa knew about Pat and, well, the future would reveal what their plans would be.

Pat left Ireland and came to the United States where he landed a job at an Irish pub. When Joe (John Rhys-Davies),  the owner, asked him to run an errand, Pat knew something was amiss and knew his life was in danger. He took off and landed in Santa Fe, New Mexico where he discovered the suitcase entrusted to him by his conniving former boss was filled with money. This confirmed that his ex-boss was a shady character. But now Pat was in even more danger.

When he was asked to be the Santa at the local mall, Pat realized he could hide in plain sight and the goons sent to Santa Fe by Joe could not find him. It worked out well for everyone. Pat was the most loved Santa in the city. He combined his sweet character with his appealing singing voice and ended up charming the entire town. But the goons were hot on his trail.

Without any spoil alerts, let’s just say that everything ends up fine and Pat’s good nature made him beloved by not only the folks in Santa Fe, but also by Santa himself.

This is a cute film and one that will be enjoyed by all ages. And don’t underestimate Damian’s voice. His singing is more than enough to make this a memorable holiday film. He previously appeared in Glee and Celtic Thunder: Christmas.

Judd Nelson, Heather Morris, Jeff Fahey and Tony Amendola co-star in this movie. Santa Fake is not rated however it is suitable for everyone.

Save your memories quickly and easily with the Epson FastFoto Scanner and the MyPassport Ultra from Western Digital

If you’re like me you have a shelf full of photo albums. They take up space you can use for other things, like more sweaters perhaps? I had a stack of personal photo albums at least five feet high. And when my family moved and as the oldest generation passed away, those albums and boxes of photos from several generations added to my own. Who wants all of those photos taking up useful space in a closet or garage? Not me.

How do you do this safely, easily, and quickly?

Part One

The FastFoto scanner from Epson was my saving grace. It is compact and took hardly any time to connect to my computer. That in itself isn’t unusual because many scanners are the same way. But this one is very different. With the Epson FastFoto 680W, scanning the photos was a breeze. The unit connects to your computer via a USB cable or wirelessly.

This is the world’s fastest photo scanner under $1000. And who wants to spend a lot of money for a photo scanner? Not me. This one lists for just under $500. And take it from me, it’s worth it if you have a lot of photos and don’t want to spend countless hours scanning each photo, one at a time.

The scanner is capable of scanning photos, newspaper articles, postcards, greeting cards, and papers up to 8 ½ inches wide. And it also scans Polaroid photos. So it was easy for me to take all the photos from four generations and scan them into my computer. The FF-680W also scans backs of photos, which was a plus because many photos from the past had dates and names written on the backs. And, let’s face it, old photos are not the best quality so utilizing the enhancement option in the software also made the images look like new. Actually, they look better than new. The software gave me the option of keeping both the original scan as well as the enhanced scan. I chose to keep only the enhanced scans. With this software personalizing every scan is easy.

The software also allowed me to create a separate folder for each album or person. Simply place a stack of up to 36 photos in the feeder, select what to name them (person, date, place, etc.) and press the button. The scanner can scan a photo a second. Think about that! In all honesty, it took me longer to remove the photos from the pages of the albums than it did to scan them. And now sharing the photos is easy too. I emailed several photos to various members of the family so they could also have their copies of memories we have shared.

Part Two

So now that you have all your photos scanned into your computer, what do you do? First of all, I threw away the old albums and took all the photos to the shredder, except for a few I wanted to hold onto as hard copies. I have plenty of additional space in my closet now! But now all the photos are on my computer. What if something happened to the computer? I always like having backups, so I turned to Western Digital for that solution. I got the My Passport Ultra for Mac (they make them for PC as well). This compact hard drive easily connected to my computer for additional storage. The My Passport Ultra is thin, about 3” X 4 ¼”, and lightweight. It is easy to transport from one place to another and plugs into a USB port.

Locating the scanned photos on my computer was easy. I then copied them onto the external WD hard drive. Voila. That was fast and now I have a backup of my photos. So the five feet tall stack of photo albums and the many boxes of single photos from three different houses are stored on my computer as well as an additional hard drive.

For some of the folders I added additional backups by copying them onto flash drives. This gives me the option of deleting them from my main computer and still having them on the My Passport Ultra hard drive as well as a backup flash drives. Copying them onto the My Passport Ultra was almost instantaneous. Copying them onto flash drives was more time consuming. The My Passport Ultra adds a second hard drive to your computer, and is detachable. You don’t have to keep it connected to the computer either. Once you have your photos on it, you can unplug the drive and store it in a safe place.

The My Passport Ultra (for Mac) comes in three sizes: 2 TB, 4 TB, and 5 TB. A terabyte is over a thousand gigabytes, over a million megabytes and one trillion bytes. The drive can be password protected if you desire.

Part three

There is no part three because the job is done! With the Epson FF-680W and the Western Digital My Passport, all the photos are digitized, stored, and backed up for safety on portable drives. Many people also like the idea of backing up their photos and music to the cloud, which makes a great third backup.

This is the fastest and easiest way to preserve photos, newspaper clippings, and all your personal memories. I owe a great big “thank you” to the folks at Epson and Western Digital.

‘Reality Queen’ shines a spotlight on today’s pop culture obsessions

Reality Queen! is a farcical movie about how the American public has become obsessed with indulgent people and frankly, people that are simply bad influences. Today’s culture idolizes the rich and the ignorant. This film is a “mockumentary” about the stupidity of some elements of the population.

Julia Faye West is London Logo, a Paris Hilton-esque character. She was born into a privileged life with self-indulgent parents. London is a drugging, drinking, party girl whose persona has made her an influencer. She shot to fame with her sex tape and is now one of the hottest celebrities on the planet. But she is famous for being famous. Sound familiar?

When three sisters, nicknamed “The Kims” (because of their last name) overtake her top popularity status, London is intent on finding a way to regain the top spot. While she is cunning and stupid at the same time, her fans are completely entranced by her every move. Again, sound familiar?

London seeks to retake the position with her “fans” by rejoining with her past reality show partner Rochelle Ritzy (Shelli Boone). Perhaps if they unite for a special show, she will once again become top reality celeb. Once again, sound familiar?

The film’s intention is to shine a spotlight on the stupidity of the public that idolizes these talentless and ignorant people. It is a great spoof on the “reality” celebs who have skyrocketed to riches thanks to the ignorance of the public and some great marketing and public relations experts.

The movie is not a great film, but it is fun to watch, especially for those who think the reality stars of today are ridiculous. It all stems from great marketing. It definitely does not stem from great intelligence and talent. Today’s pop culture icons do not have the talent of the previous generations. For some reason the public idolizes these people simply because they are on TV.

Reality Queen! is not rated however it is not suitable for young kids. It is definitely a film that will start conversations though! It opens in theaters January 10, 2020.

‘Forky Asks a Question’ on Disney+

When Toy Story 4 came out, audiences met Forky. Forky is a craft created by Bonnie. She made him from a spork and other items she took out of the trash. Forky instantly became one of Bonnie’s favorite “toys.” He is a child, basically, and doesn’t know much about the world. It is up to the other toys to teach him. In the new animated series of shorts on Disney+, Forky Asks a Question, each film follows the little fellow as he learns all about concepts and the world around him.

Forky is learning how the world works by asking questions like, “What is love?”  He also wants to know other things, like what a friend is, what a leader is, what money is, and what time is. There are many concepts Forky is learning about and each film shows him gaining more and more knowledge about life.

While Forky isn’t an actual toy from the store, Bonnie thinks of him as one of her toys.

There will be 10 short films in this series. Each one will be available on the streaming service Disney+. There are several shorts available now to watch and new ones will be added each Friday to complete the series of 10.

Forky Asks a Question is a cute little series of shorts starring the newest toy in the franchise and including many of the toys viewers have come to know and love throughout the Toy Story franchise. Enjoy Forky Asks a Question with your kids.

‘Abominable’ is a sweet family film

Take a wild trip through China with three kids and a fun-loving young Yeti. Abominable is a cute animated film for all ages.

After a young Yeti escapes his captors, he climbs up to the roof of an apartment building. It’s there where young Yi lives with her mother and grandmother. She is still grieving the death of her father and withdrawn from her family. Also living in the building are her friends Jin and his young cousin Peng.

One day Yi discovers the giant beast on the roof. She cares for him and treats his injuries. After she discovers he is from the Himalayan Mountains, she names him Everest. Yi also discovers he is being hunted and decides she has to take him back to his home, even if that means traveling through the country to the mountains.

Through some unusual circumstances, Jin and Peng find themselves on the journey as well. Along the way they must outrun and outwit the people who want the Yeti for a trophy. Unfortunately, the humans are the greatest threat to Everest and his family, but if the trio can manage to get him close enough to his home, the Yeti magical powers will be enough to cloak their home, as it has done for centuries.

Everest has some magical powers and his good intentions combined with his powers often give rise to some comical situations for the group. But he is a loving little guy and does everything in his power to protect his new friends when they all find themselves in peril.

The film includes some memorable songs and immerses viewers in the wonders of China. It is a heartwarming film for all ages with plenty of music, scenery, comedy, and of course a whimsical story that will win over the hearts of everyone.

The bonus features include some deleted scenes and a look at how the storyboarding and animating of the story progressed. There is a “making of” feature and a cute look at the voice cast as they explain their lives and their characters. Plenty of other bonus features add to the fun of the disc, including some wise hints about taking care of pets, life lessons on being an independent woman, a cooking lesson to make the pork buns eaten in the film, craft lessons on how to draw the characters and make Chinese Lanterns, and even more fun and interesting bonuses.

This is a great family film. Don’t be surprised if your kids ask for an Everest of their own. Yes – they do make an adorable plush Everest (just in time for the holidays!)

Abominable is rated PG for some action and mild rude humor.

‘The Art of Frozen II’

Disney fans and Frozen II fans will definitely enjoy reading about how the filmmakers created the wondrous movie. The new book, “The Art of Frozen 2” is filled with information from the filmmakers and plenty of images showing how they crafted the characters and the scenery.

Frozen 2 is a brilliant sequel with the return of the characters that overjoyed viewers year ago. But creating and recreating them was not easy. The designers had to check out how different hairstyles and clothing would look on each character. It required plenty of CG imaging and color combinations to get the right look.

Between the pages of this book readers see how the film came to be with so many color images and fascinating facts about the artwork and the story. This sequel is beautifully crafted and some audiences thought it is better than the original film, which is hard to do since that movie became an instant classic and the characters are now iconic.

Frozen 2 is really a continuation of the first film; it’s all part of the same story,” stated Director Chris Buck, Chief Creative Officer Jennifer Lee, and Producer Peter Del Vecho in the Forward to the book. “We stayed true to the characters and are following them on the next chapter of their story.”

Sisters Anna and Elsa are on a new journey, along with Kristoff, Olaf, and of course, Sven. Each one of these characters is looked at in the book as well as a few new ones that make an appearance in the film. The book is divided into five sections: Arendelle, Air, Earth, Fire, and Water. Each one of the elements is an important part of the story and the images in the book bring them to readers in a stunning way.

This is one of the most complete “Art of” books with plenty of background information to go along with all the beautiful artwork. It is a great cocktail table book to flip through and for fans of animation and it is a good look at the making of the film. This is an insider’s look at the movie that is capturing the hearts of moviegoers everywhere.

“The Art of Frozen II” is a treasure for all fans of the film.
