New Costa Spring 2015 Sunglasses for Women

Named after the Boga fish, one of Costa’s newest sunglasses for women is both practical and pretty. The company claims they are designed for women who spend a lot of time on the water, however they are attractive and comfortable to wear all the time.

The Boga, like the other Costa sunglasses, is made for eye protection. With 100% UV light blockage as well as polarization that eliminates reflective glare and thereby reduces eye strain, these lenses are built for practicality. But that’s not to say the glasses don’t look spectacular.

The Boga style is round with the frame not entirely surrounding the lens, giving it a more modern flare to the Jackie-O style. Although when I first put on my glasses, my husband said, “You look like Jackie.” I took that as a compliment.

Besides the look of these very wearable glasses, they are meant to be durable and comfortable. Costa uses special hypoallergenic rubberized no-slip nose pads and temple tips, which for those of us who are sensitive, is a great advantage over other brands. And their springs are comfortable so wearing the glasses all day long won’t cause any problems.

What also makes Costa sunglasses perfect for everyone is that the frames and lenses are available in a variety of mix and match combinations. I prefer grey lenses on all my sunglasses, so I selected the gray lenses with the Pomegranate Fade frame. What, you might ask, is a Pomegranate Fade frame? The top is a darker shade of maroon and fades to a beautiful cranberry pink at the bottom. It’s gorgeous. And the other colors in this collection are just as beautiful. They have Morena, which reminds me of a beautiful piece of wood, White, Orchid, which is a stunning soft pinky-purple, Tortoise, and Squall, which is a dark gray. The lens choices are gray, green, copper, blue, amber, and silver mirror. When you go to the Costa website, you are able to customize your sunglasses with the color lenses and frames of your choice.

lamar

The second new women’s style for spring 2015 season is called La Mar, which is another round frame with a little more edgy styling. The outside edges come to a corner on the top instead of being completely curved. The frame colors for the La Mar are different than those for the Boga. La Mar seems to me to be a little sportier and the Boga is more voguish because of the way the lens is not completely surrounded by the frame.

“These styles are for women who love to be on the water, and want a great pair of sunglasses to complete the scene,” said Chas MacDonald, president of Costa. “These big-eye styles are a perfect fit for any escape.”

Both styles offer complete eye coverage and both of the new styles have the same construction and durability as well as the lenses that ease eyestrain (which is why we should buy sunglasses to begin with). Many people select sunglasses on style alone and forget that they are meant to serve a purpose. Sure, Jackie O looked great in her sunglasses, but back in her day they didn’t make lenses like they do today, and Costa makes sure to create lenses that are functional while at the same time combining them with stylish frames. Think of why you buy sunglasses. Is it solely to look good? If so, you are doing your eyes a disservice. Finding a sunglass that looks good while at the same time preserving your eyes and reducing strain while making what you see look clear and sharp is what you should be doing when you look for sunglasses.

boga choices

As you can tell, I am already a fan of Costa sunglasses simply because I have sensitive eyes and suffer from headaches. With the Costa glasses I don’t suffer from the eyestrain of dime-store sunglasses, and I get the option of selecting my lens color and my frame color.

Costa has been in business since 1983 so they know how to create the best glasses. They are designed for sportsmen and sportswomen who spend a lot of time outside. But they are also great for people who don’t surf, fish, boat, or aren’t on the water all day long. These are simply well built sunglasses with the added benefit of being functional and stylish.

Costa not only creates sunglasses, but also strives for conservation. They recently took on the problem of plastic waste in the oceans with their Kick Plastics Campaign. “Our hope is that we can spark real conversations within our own fishing and outdoor communities about the grave dangers facing our oceans,” said Perkinson. “This isn’t some distant problem, this is an issue that directly impacts all of us in the sport fishing industry. Simple changes such as … drinking out of a permanent water bottle and recycling the plastic we do use can significantly reduce the amount of trash making its way into our oceans.” For more information about this campaign and Costa, as well as to order your own sunglasses, go to costadelmar.com.

Yes, I am biased because I have been wearing Costa sunglasses for years and completely believe in them. And I feel that once you try them, you will feel the same.

2015 Special Olympics World Games Announce Host Town Delegations

Today residents and leaders from more than 100 communities in Southern California learned if they would be saying Bonjour!, ¡Hola!, ! مرحباً , 您好!, Привет! or Hello!beginning July 21 when they host 7,000 athletes and 3,000 coaches in the days prior to start of the 2015 Special Olympics World Games in Los Angeles. Delegates from as many as 170 Special Olympics Programs from around the world will spend three days and nights in communities stretching from San Luis Obispo to San Diego as part of the Host Town program – enjoying a warm welcome to the U.S. before moving into the Athlete Villages at USC and UCLA on July 24. Additional communities and delegations will be announced in the coming weeks, including the Host Town for Special Olympics Team USA.

Today’s Host Town pairing announcement follows the successful Head of Delegation Conference that opened with Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti greeting the attendees with “welcome to your second home.” The four-day conference held January 21-25, 2015, brought together key members of national and international Special Olympics Programs to learn about World Games venues, operations and services. The Opening Ceremony of the World Games, now less than five months away, will be held at the historic Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on July 25 and televised to a worldwide audience by ESPN.

The Host Town program has been an important element of Special Olympics World Games since 1995. The experience has left a lasting impression on the local communities in Ireland, Japan, China, Greece, South Korea and the United States, all of which have previously organized Host Town programs as part of the Special Olympics World Games. Communities are evaluated on the availability of lodging accommodations, sports practice facilities and recreation/entertainment offerings for the athletes, among other criteria. Each Host Town committee is also responsible for planning activities for the athletes to introduce them to the community and help spread the word about the World Games.

“The Host Town program gives each community an opportunity to showcase to the world what makes them special, but more importantly to provide citizens with a better understanding of intellectual disabilities that will lead to acceptance and inclusion for all,” said Patrick McClenahan, President and CEO of LA2015. “Long after the World Games are over, the memories of those three days spent at Host Town will leave a lasting legacy for Special Olympics Southern California and everyone who was touched by our athletes. We are thankful to all participating Host Towns and their tireless volunteers for opening their doors – and their hearts – to our athletes and coaches.”

Hear No Evil Premiers on TV One

hearnoevil_movie_1Shelby (Jahnee Wallace) is a sensitive 15-year-old girl who has been deaf since she was a baby. Then one day she is struck by lightening and her hearing suddenly returns. But regaining her hearing is only part of her new life. Hear No Evil is a new religious-inspired film that will air on TV One.

Shelby lives with her parents (Jill Marie Jones and Richard T. Jones), her younger sister Brie (Kala Davis), and her freeloading uncle Jason (Jackie Long). When her hearing is restored her life is completely changed, and not for the reason you think. Shelby now hears God. While her mother discounts this, her uncle Jason milks it for all it is worth. He even wants to get his niece connected with a carnival. Shelby has insights no one else could possibly know. Except God.

While the young girl is struggling with all the voices in her head, she manages to help people by giving them messages from God. She even helps her father, an attorney, with a case that has been troubling him. But sometimes knowing things that no one else knows can be a burden.
This new insight and all the voices in her head are almost too much for the young girl. She was at peace when she was deaf and everything was fine for her, but now she is in an almost-constant state of distress.

This is an interesting story, with an interesting premise. It is not unusual for people to change when they are struck by lightening, if they survive. But Shelby’s new state of existence comes with a burden. “Hearing is overrated,” she says, when comparing her old life with the new one. She loves the fact that she can hear her parents and sister’s voices, but the price she pays for all the voices in her head is almost too much for her to bear. And when she realizes who is behind one of the city’s notorious murders, her life is put in danger. Everyone knows about the girl who talks to God and knows things that are secret. This fact puts her life in peril as she struggles with realities that now confront her. But what’s interesting is that she takes it basically all in stride.

Jahnee Wallace plays Shelby with a quiet easiness. Her calm way of dealing with new facts is a little strange. And her family’s reaction to her renewed hearing, not to mention the new abilities, is odd. They don’t seem as overjoyed as viewers might expect. At least it seemed a little strange to me. All the characters are basically low-keyed about all the new events in their lives.

Hear No Evil premiers on TV One March 14, 2015. TV One was launched January 2004 and is seen in 57 million households. It is targeted to a diverse audience of black viewers.

Russell Madness is Fun for Kids

RussellMadness_Box ShotWhat do you get when you mix an adorable Jack Russell Terrier with a fun-loving monkey? Russell Madness. This is a cute movie for kids. After all, who doesn’t love a good dog/monkey team?

From director/producer/writer Robert Vince who brought us the popular Air Bud and Air Buddies film franchises, Russell Madness employs the same technology with “talking” animals. Yep, as in the Buddies films, these animals move their mouths and speak…English.

The story begins with Russell, a sweet little puppy who has a nervous condition. Whenever anyone thinks about adopting him from the pet store, he pees all over them. So when all of his siblings have found homes, Russell is left alone and destined for the pound. All this little guy wants is a family.

After some antics, the Ferraro family, who has moved from San Diego to Portland where they have inherited a “vintage” wrestling arena, discovers Russell. And they have inherited one other thing. Hunk, a Capuchin monkey, comes along with the building.

To sum up the story, Russell becomes a champion wrestler, even though he’s a dog, with Hunk is his trainer. This team manages to revive the old wrestling arena and bring fame back to the Ferraro family, while at the same time giving Russell a family to love and who loves him. Of course, there are some whacky scenes in the arena, with Russell bouncing off the ropes, and let’s not forget the evil promoter who doesn’t have anyone’s – or any pup’s – best interest in mind except his own wallet.
The tagline for the film is “The strongest tag team is family.” That’s what this show is about. Family. Russell and Hunk and all the Ferraros become one loving family who put family above everything, even profit.

Hunk is played, and quite brilliantly, by Crystal the Monkey who has warmed the hearts of viewers in her various roles – Dexter in Night at the Museum, Dr. Rizzo in her TV series Animal Practice, and in the movies We Bought a Zoo and The Hangover, as well as plenty others. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting this sweet little monkey and can say with all honesty, she’s loveable.
Sean Giambrone who plays Adam Goldberg in the TV series The Goldbergs voices Russell. Will Sasso provides the voice of Hunk.

Russell Madness is a show about family, love, and caring. It’s filled with plenty of whacky wrestling moments from not only little Russell, but also wrestler/actor John Hennigan who faces Russell in the arena as the champion “The Hammer.” But how can this little terrier take on the champ? With plenty of spunk, courage, and a great monkey trainer, of course.

Russell Madness is rated PG for some rude humor and sports action. Its appeal will mostly be for ages 5-12. It’s available on a Blu-Ray + DVD + Digital HD combo pack.

Cinderella Waltzes onto the Big Screen – along with some Frozen Fun

CINDERELLADisney’s 1950 classic animated feature film Cinderella has been beloved by generations. Now, in another incarnation, this new live-action film of the adored tale will wow audiences with its splendor. It is a cliché to say this movie is enchanting, yet that is exactly what it is.

This is the story of Ella (Lily James), who has grown up in a loving family but her mother passes away while she is still a young girl. Her father adores her however after several years he wants a second chance at happiness. Ella’s stepmother (Cate Blanchett) brings her two self-centered daughters Drizella (Sophie McShera) and Anastasia (Holliday Grainger) to live with Ella and her father at their country home. Yet it isn’t long before Ella’s father also dies and she is left alone with the three women who reduce her to being their servant in her own home.

cinderella slippers

Before she dies, Ella’s mother told her to “have courage and be kind” which is exactly how the young girl handles her life. It is, however, quite challenging for her at times when she is relegated to cleaning and caring for her stepfamily while living alone in the attic. Well, that’s not entirely true. She is not alone. Her companions are a group of mice she has befriended.

One day while riding her horse, she meets a young man. This man is in reality the prince (Richard Madden). The attraction CINDERELLAbetween them is quite strong. When the king gives a ball to find a wife for his son, Ella, who has been called “Cinder-Ella” by her stepfamily because she is always dirty, wants to attend along with the others however her stepmother does not allow her to go.

We all know the story of the Fairy Godmother (Helena Bonham Carter) who appears and transforms the pumpkin, mice, and Cinderella for the evening. The transformation is the most magical and delightful scene, combining humor and charm.

The 1950 film is one of the “10 Greatest Animated Films of all Time,” according to the American Film Industry. Transforming a beloved animated film into a beautiful live-action movie might seem like a difficult task, yet the filmmakers have done a splendid job of doing just that. The costume design is deserving of awards. Cinderella’s ball gown and her wedding dress are extraordinary. And the glass slipper is amazing. It was created by Swarovski and features a beautiful butterfly on the top. The blue ball gown is adorned with butterflies as well. The gown was madeCINDERELLA from over 270 yards of fabric with over 10,000 Swarovski crystals. Watch it as it flows when Ella dances. If Disney wants to give any of the nine copies away, I’ll be glad to take one!

Audiences will be rooting for Ella the entire time. While the stepsisters in the animated film are ugly and quite zany, the live-action versions are not as character-ish. They are simply not nice girls. Prince Charming is relatable as a man and a prince. All the characters are quite convincing in their roles.

There have been so many movies and plays based on the Cinderella story. Each one has a specific quality and tone. Charming, enchanting, and delightful are all words to describe this new version of the beloved fairy tale. Cinderella is rated PG for mild thematic elements.

Frozen Fever is a Pure Delight

FROZEN FEVER

Before the highly anticipated movie Cinderella is shown, audiences are treated to the highly anticipated short featuring the beloved characters from Frozen. Disney’s Frozen Fever is a brief yet adorable little snippet of a day in the life of Elsa, Anna, Kristoff, Olaf, and Sven.

FROZEN FEVERIt’s Anna’s birthday and for the first time in forever, well, actually for the first time in a long time, Elsa and Anna are celebrating together. Elsa, Kristoff, Olaf, and Sven have been planning a surprise party for the young princess, complete with a cake (which Olaf is eager to sample), a sign (made with love by Kristoff), and plenty of birthday fun. The one thing they didn’t anticipate was Elsa coming down with a cold.

Adding some new baby characters to the cast, Frozen Fever is filled with all the fun without any of the catastrophes of the feature film. Well, unless you consider Olaf taking a chomp out of the cake a catastrophe.
Audiences have been clamoring for more of Frozen and while this is just a short, it is a lot of frozen fun. Plus, there is a new song to sing. It’s only seven minutes, but they are seven fun minutes.

Kidnapping Mr. Heineken

kidnapping-mr-heineken-FH-0641_rgbWhen you hear the name Heineken you probably think of beer. The company, started by Dutch brewery magnate Freddy Heineken, produces a popular beer around the world. However there is much more to the story of Freddy Heineken than the brewery he built. In the 1980s Heineken was kidnapped along with his chauffeur in what has been called “the most notorious kidnapping of the 20th Century.” Kidnapping Mr. Heineken tells the story of this crime from the view of the kidnappers.

The 1983 kidnapping of Heineken and his chauffeur brought about the biggest ransom of the time. Crime journalist Peter R. deVries studied and wrote about this incident, and now viewers can see it play out on screen.

Anthony Hopkins stars as Freddy Heineken, however since he was the captive, his part is very limited. The kidnappers, played by Jim Sturgess, Sam Worthington, Ryan Kwanten, Mark van Eewen, and Tom Cocquerel, carry the film. These guys were ordinary men. They were not criminals. They were working men who came on tough time during the financial woes of the decade. They just happened to plan one of the most ingenious kidnapping plots of the 20th Century – that of Dutch mogul Freddy Heineken. And they got away with it. Well, up to a point.

What makes this story interesting is the fact that it is based on actual events. If you didn’t know there actually was a Freddy Heineken and that this event really did happen, you would probably think it was a story concocted by filmmakers. But it did happen.

kidnapping-mr-heineken-KFH__01204_rgbBecause the five friends were not criminals at heart and all they wanted was money, they took extra care not to harm their victims. As a matter of fact, Heineken and his chauffeur were treated fairly well, considering they were imprisoned. The kidnappers, Cor Van Hout, Han Boelaard, Willem Holledeer, Martin Erkamps, and Frans Meijer, were friends who happened to concoct a scheme that captivated a nation and garnered the biggest ransom in history, up to that time.

“We always found it ironic sad that these guys were such good friends, and by the end of this adventure or misadventure, the five of them were never in a room together after they split up the ransom. It destroyed everything between them,” said filmmaker Michael A. Simpson.

The kidnappers were really lucky. They were kind of bumbling but yet they managed to pull off the kidnapping. However, while they waited for the ransom to be paid, the tension rose and they began turning on each other. Could they keep it together to follow through with the plan, each take their payoff, and get away to live decent lives? Perhaps their emotions were what worked against them.

Kidnapping Mr. Heineken was filmed on location in Brussels, Antwerp, Amsterdam, and New Orleans. It’s curious story and study of human emotions and psyches. Unfortunately, Sir Anthony Hopkins’ role is very limited.

Kidnapping Mr. Heineken is rated R for language throughout. It’s not an edge-of-your-seat movie, but it is interesting due to the fact that it actually happened.

Products from an Oscar 2015 Gifting Suite

The Academy Awards are history as well as all the after-parties, hangovers, and borrowed gowns and jewels. Hollywood is getting back to normal. No more street closures and hype. For people who are not residents of Southern California, this might seem strange, but Southern Californians go through this every year, and awards seasons are filled with a lot of fun, hard work, and guilty pleasures for the media.

Sometimes I attend a gifting suite, which, for outsiders, is an opportunity for talent and media to find out about products. This year I attended only one gifting suite, and what I noticed this time was an abundance of organic, natural, and health products.
products1Fiber Choice was represented (we’ve all seen those TV commercials for their fiber gummy chews) and yes, I did get some bottles of the delicious fiber chews. This is a product I can definitely use. Fiber is important for all of us, and trust me when I say, these little gummies taste delicious. They have two different formulas: Immunity Support and Metabolism Energy. They all taste fruity and two fruit gummies are only 10 calories.

Gutsy Chewy is a chewy product for queasiness and reflux and comes in two flavors: wild berry and citrus. They are gluten free and lactose free and only 5 calories each. According to the bottle, a gastroenterologist developed them.

Just one sniff of the Nuwati Herbal Tea can open your sinuses, although it is supposed to be steeped in hot water first! The Healer Tea was created for immune support and to relieve sinus, allergies, headaches, and colds. I haven’t tried it yet, however I did take a whiff and it definitely gets right to the nasal passages to reduce swelling.

SRE Belli VitaDo you remember the product Ally? It was a disaster. Calorease is a new product for reducing the body’s absorption of fats in much the same way Ally did, however it does not create the loose, oily byproduct. It is designed to attach to the fat and reduce calorie absorption. According to the representative, it can reduce up to 500 calories a day and is stimulant free.
TrueToniq was also on hand giving samples of the Trim Toniq and Brain Toniq. Trim Toniq is designed to enhance your metabolism, and Brain Toniq is designed to fuel your brain with mostly organic substances. The Trim Toniq has zero calories, and the Brain Toniq has 80 calories to get your brain unstuck, so to speak.

2015 Celebrity Style Lounge in honor of the 88th Annual Academy AwardsTrue You Mist is an interesting little product I was introduced to at this event. Just a few sprays and it clears the space around you filling it with positive energy. Just mist the space around you and your mind and body will be refreshed and clear. There is a mild scent, so if you are sensitive to that, you might want to think about that before trying this, however I found just one small spritz isn’t overpowering and rather refreshing.

RevitaLash products for fixing up lashes and eyebrows were on hand to display their products and give away samples. If you have thinning eyebrows, this is a good product because it makes them look fuller. I did ask them if it will do anything for people without eyebrows and they said no. You do need some hair on your eyebrows for this to bind to to create the look of more brows.

We were treated to the new ice cream inspired yogurt flavors from Muller yogurt, and a variety of delicious wines courtesy of Testa Wines of the World and given our own bottle of Undurraga Brut, which, I have to admit, makes a wonderful mimosa. This is a delightful blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

products3No Mo O isa product to remove odors and stains, especially pet odors –and it really works! And Ancestry handed out DNA tests to complete and send in. They are able to trace your DNA back many generations to see where on this globe your relatives lived. Interesting? I’m about to find out as soon as I put my test into the mail.

Perhaps one of the most unique items of the day was from Belli Vita. This is a way to capture your pregnancy in a way that will live on for years. What they do is take a plaster cast of your belly when you are pregnant. They then create a one-of-a-kind glass bowl from that casting. These bowls come in a variety of colors. They are really beautiful. You can use your bowl for fruit, candy, a display, or a true conversation piece. And, think about handing it down to your child once he/she is old enough to appreciate this unique item. The bowls are not flimsy. They are sturdy and substantial. If you’re pregnant, definitely check out bellivita.com. When I attend a gifting suite I usually find one very special item and this is it from this event.
Whether it’s for the Golden Globes, the Emmys, the Academy Awards, or whatever, Hollywood goes gaga over gifting suites. And the talent goes home with plenty of goodies. The rest of us are spared the luxury vacations, spa treatments, expensive jewelry, cosmetic treatments like liposuction, and other items, but we do get to experience and learn about some pretty interesting products.

Anyway, for my one outing at a gifting suite this year, I know I will be a little healthier with all the healthy and organic items I received. And, don’t forget that delicious bottle of wine, my ancestry history, and plenty of other fun stuff.
