ZUS Smart Car Charger and Locator – Product Review

With so many mobile devices, charging them can be a hassle. Charging on the go is often the best time to recharge a phone or tablet. ZUS has two USB ports that charge at twice the speed of a regular outlet, lighting to see the ports at night, and a car locator that leads you to your car with the help of the free app.

While this little gadget does several things, my favorite part of the ZUS is the fast charging. Charging my iPad and my iPhone at twice the speed at the same time is something that is useful to me. I also like the fact that the ports light up in the dark so finding the device plug-ins is a breeze.

One of the other features of this unit is the car locator. There are some downfalls with this, however it seems to work nicely under the right circumstances. If you are inside a building and want to find where you parked your car, you won’t be able to do that as it relies on GPS, which is only accessible outside. So, you do have to go outside to track the location of your vehicle. This might be a problem when you are inside and cannot remember where you parked and it is raining or snowing. You do have to go out into the elements to get the GPS to work.

Once in awhile the locator didn’t do its job the way I would have liked. But on the whole it worked pretty well.

I don’t know if I would recommend this device solely as a car locator. I will mostly be using it as a fast charger, which is the selling point for me when it comes to the ZUS.

There is also an alarm you can set via the app so you’ll never forget about an expiring parking meter. Once the time has been set, the app will alert you ten minutes before the meter or parking time expires.

Fast charging is a benefit for many people, myself included. Imagine having a carload of people, each needing to charge their phones. With two ports and twice the speed, everyone will be able to charge their devices in a short time. Two smartphones can charge in about two hours. For long car rides this is a great feature, especially during summer family driving trips.

ZUS is able to withstand being inside a hot car and has a cooling system that prevents it from overheating. It is definitely a handy little unit that accomplishes a variety of tasks.

Walt Disney World’s Newest Offerings for ‘Frozen’ and ‘Star Wars’ Fans

Walt Disney once said, “You can design and create, and build the most wonderful place in the world. But it takes people to make the dream a reality.” The Imagineers are those people and the newest additions to Walt Disney World in Florida show just how creative these folks are. This summer several new attractions will be opening and, as Disney also said, “We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we’re curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.”

FROZEN

'Frozen Ever After' Attraction Rendering
Let’s face it; Frozen is a phenomenon that has taken the world by storm, no pun intended. Elsa, Anna, Kristoff, Sven, and Olaf are beloved characters and have taken their place among the other Disney characters that have entertained generations. The World Showcase in EPCOT is bringing these characters to visitors in the Norway pavilion. “Frozen Ever After” transports visitors to Arendelle where they will see the North Mountain and Elsa’s Ice Palace. The original cast from the film provides the voices on this magical boat ride and the classic songs from the film accompany the excursion, “with a twist,” as the Imagineers revealed.

WDW SW f 4
The idea to change the Norway pavilion began in November 2013, before the movie even premiered. The creative people at Disney knew the relationship between Norway and the film was something that would appeal to visitors to EPCOT. They are lengthening the original boat ride that has been part of the pavilion since it opened. The ride also builds on the songs with the characters, and, as was explained to me, everyone is friendly now, even Marshmallow (the big snowman that guarded the Ice Palace in the film).

WDW F f 5
Besides the boat ride, visitors to Norway will see the summer home of the royal family. This is the place where Elsa and Anna spent their childhoods and contains plenty of artifacts from that time in their lives.

STAR WARS

In 2012 Disney announced the company was acquiring Lucasfilm, which meant the Star Wars franchise would now be part of the company. Star Wars fans have plenty to be excited about in Walt Disney World. Disney’s Hollywood Studios now has several attractions to take visitors to a galaxy far, far away.
Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple

At “Star Tours – The Adventures Continue,” guests are now taken to a new destination from the latest film, Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Plus a new live show brings the characters up close and personal to visitors. There is also Jedi training area, which young visitors to the park especially enjoy.

At the “Star Wars Launch Bay” items from the films are on display. It’s here you’ll see the uniforms and the droids. And of course, there is a store where all kinds of Star Wars items are available to take home.

WDW SW f1

The piece de resistance for Star Wars fans is the new nighttime fireworks spectacular, “Symphony in the Stars.” Imagine standing – or sitting – and hearing the music we all recognize accompanied by an amazing light and fireworks show. As the tempo swells the fireworks explode, bringing a rush of excitement to all the fans. But that’s not all. There are sound bites from the films that also accompany this nighttime extravaganza. There’s no one that can put on a fireworks spectacular better than the folks at Disney! And thank you, John Williams, for composing that theme song that is impossible not to hum while leaving the park after the show.
Symphony in the Stars: A Galactic Spectacular at Disney's Hollywood Studios

There are plenty more new additions coming this summer to Walt Disney World. These are just the tip of the iceberg (again, no pun intended)! May the force be with you.

HydroChic Land and Water Clothing for Women

HydroChic is a company that has answered the prayers of millions of women around the globe. Their clothing is appropriate for lounging, swimming, exercising, and everyday wear. So, what makes their products so appealing to women? It’s the fact that they can be worn over swimwear or as swimwear, without compromising modesty. Whether you have religious concerns about showing too much skin, are sensitive about your body image, or simply want something comfortable and can serve a variety of situations, HydroChic is the answer.
mayim
Actress Mayim Bialik (The Big Bang Theory) recently endorsed the company. She is religious and conservative in her attire and posted on her Facebook page, “I’ve written about ‘modest swimwear’ before but I just got the new spring catalog for HydroChic Sun Protective Swimwear & Activewear and I wanted to post it. I am not being paid to do this, I just want to share it because I think it’s important to get this resource out there…they have a ton of options and ‘plus’ sizes … for all levels of comfort, modesty-wise….my previous HydroChic suit lasted for YEARS.”

hc dress“HydroChic is designed to enhance a woman’s natural beauty and flatter her body, while offering a range of protection and modesty options that fit her lifestyle,” says HydroChic co-founder Sara Wolf of New Rochelle, NY. “Many women of all ages are seeking alternative swim solutions to the traditional bathing suit, because, let’s face it, we can’t all wear a bikini.”

hc active
Every piece of clothing can be worn in the water, but they also look great as cover-ups over traditional suits and can simply be worn around and as exercise clothing. The material is chlorine resistant and chlorine proof, and fast drying. Plus they have clothes that have UPF 50+ sun protection. Whether you are an XS or a 4X, they have a variety of mix-and-match tops and bottoms.
hcpants
Personally, I am not comfortable in “Yoga Pants.” But I feel very comfortable in the Long Swimpants. They are called swimpants, but they are great to wear when exercising, running errands, or taking a walk. And if I happen to be near the beach – or a pool, I can wear them there too. This is a great pair of pants to wear when on vacation, say, in Hawaii. Now women don’t have to worry about getting their pants wet when taking a walk along the beach after dinner. And if you plan on having pool parties for your friends or your kids this summer, this is the best way to look stylish while at the same time being able to take a dip yourself. And post maternity moms who often feel like hiding their bodies get the coverage they want while still looking stylish.

hc skort
The styles range from $29.50 – $90 and are available at select stores throughout the US, Canada, Australia, South Africa and Israel, and online at www.hydrochic.com. Besides pants, they have a variety of tops, capris, skorts, dresses, skirts, shorts, and jackets, which are all great for home or resort wear. And for women who are not modest, there are plenty of styles that won’t make them feel like they are wearing something out of their realm. For instance, there is an adorable swim short with hidden shorts and a cute colorblock swim n’ tennis dress. And the tops are perfect for all ages. Think about getting some for your girls – or yourself – to wear over swimsuits after getting out of the pool or at the beach. There are some pretty colors from which to choose too! The sea blue is beautiful.

hc bra
Whether you want something to wear in or out of the water while maintaining some sense of dignity and style, HydroChic has something for you. And if you order one of their tops, you get a complimentary swim and sports bra.

BoardWalk Resort at Walt Disney World

Walt Disney World in Florida is big and growing all the time. They have a variety of resorts on the property and each one offers a different atmosphere and experience. The BoardWalk is on a Crescent Lake has waterways that connect to Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios theme parks. Across the lake from the BoardWalk resort are the Beach Club and Yacht Club resorts, and also along the waterway are the Swan and Dolphin Resorts. This group of resorts makes up this little corner of Walt Disney World.

resortroom
The BoardWalk hotel is like taking a step back to the 1900s. There are plenty of areas to sit on a rocking chair or an Adirondack chair and people watch or watch the peaceful waters of the lake. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and whether you get a view of the boardwalk and the water or the garden, you’ll find yourself looking at relaxing scenery. And that is important when you want to decompress after your time in a theme park.

Decorated with scenes from the early life of an American boardwalk, this resort has several ins and outs that are fun to find for yourself. A pool with a waterslide is great for the kids, and families enjoy the bike rentals and especially the Surrey Bike rentals along the boardwalk, which has shops and restaurants, and at night this place comes alive with carnival games and a fun nightlife.

resort1
The Flying Fish Café is the signature restaurant on the boardwalk, however we prefer Trattoria al Forno, also on the boardwalk. We headed there in the morning for a variety of breakfast options before starting our day. If you prefer quick dining, there are plenty of those areas on the boardwalk and across the lake at the Yacht and Beach Club resorts.

resortlake
Now, about that lake, it’s just a few minute boat ride to the other resorts, and a few minutes longer to the two different theme parks. If you go one direction, you’ll end up at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, which is the place to be if you’re a Star Wars fan. And if you go the other direction, you’ll disembark in Epcot’s World Showcase, which is a completely different experience. Of course, there are walkways connecting all of these areas and the walk is not long at all. Plus, there is the Disney Transportation system of busses, which are accessed from the front of the resort. The busses not only access the two parks closest to the resort, but also all of the other parks in WDW.

The actual turn-of-the-century boardwalk atmosphere and the close access to Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios are what make this resort different from the others in WDW. Disney’s BoardWalk Resort is considered a “deluxe” resort. Complimentary WiFi, complimentary self-parking, a business center, childcare services, and a health club combine to make this a great resort for adults while at the same time offering plenty for kids. And let’s not forget the real reason we go to WDW. The activities, rides, attractions, food, night shows, fireworks, shopping, and all the fun of Disney are almost at arm’s length.

resortclown
By the way, don’t forget to stop in and get a delicious caramel apple on your way back to your room after a long day of fun. It’s the perfect way to cap off a day at Walt Disney World.

Dory Talking Plush

When Finding Nemo hit the screens in 2003, it was Dory who stole viewers’ hearts. Voiced by Ellen DeGeneres, Dory, a blue tang fish with memory problems, now has a movie of her own which is set to open June 17. Finding Dory is Disney’s big summer animated film, and along with the film there are plenty of corresponding merchandise items that are sure to be desired by fans of the film, and especially fans of Dory.

The Dory Talking Plush is a 14-inch cute and cuddly stuffed Dory that moves her fins and lips when her button is pressed. She speaks seven phrases from the film voiced by Ellen.

“Hello there. Do you know me? Oh no, I’m sorry. I suffer from short-term memory loss. You found me! How did you find me?”

“Hi, I’m Dory. Excuse me. Hi. So, I’m looking for my family. I guess we’ll hang out another time. Don’t be a stranger.”

“You know I speak whale…”

“Hello, hello. Can you help me? Hey guys, I’m looking for my family. Got it. What was the first part again?”

“I remembered something. I actually remembered something. Something important. We better get going. I’m sorry, did I forget again?”

“Hey man, don’t touch my tag. Wow. I’m so glad I found you.”

And she speaks a phrase in whale! Well, kind of in whale.

Dory is soft and cuddly and if you don’t want her talking all night in your child’s bed, simply turn off her switch which is located in her stomach and accessed through a Velcro-closing pocket.

This Dory cannot go into the bathtub, but there is one that does – the Dory Swimming Action Figure. Plus, there are plenty of other great items in the Finding Dory collection from the Disney Store.

Costa’s Newest Sunglasses for Summer 2016

The Costa quality is evident in every pair of sunglasses they make. With their newest line for summer 2016, outdoor enthusiasts can look even better while still protecting their eyes. Costa sunglasses are comfortable and durable. That is something I can attest to since they are the only sunglasses I have worn for over a decade.

Costa wearers can select from a variety of frame and lens colors, and they even offer to make your new glasses with your personal prescription if you have one. Their polarized 580 lenses provide clear, easy viewing which filters out ultraviolet blue and yellows. Your eyes will feel less stress and colors around you will appear bright and vibrant, while still maintaining crisp visual acuity.

The newest styles for summer include Anaa, Hinano, Copra, and Trevally. They are each unique and customizable for your personality and are available in either glass or lightweight plastic lenses.

Costa trevalla1
The Trevally is a unisex design with a smaller fit. Hinano is named for a flower from French Polynesia. It also has a small fit. Copra is a medium fit and the frames are made with resin from the castor plant. Anaa is another medium fit style named for an atoll in Tahiti. With inspiration from nature, Costa designs each of their styles for durability and precision. And yes, they are made in the USA! The company is in Florida and every pair of glasses is created there.

costa hinano1
Each of these new styles comes in a variety of lens colors like blue, green, and silver mirror, and non-mirrored gray or copper. There is also a lens called sunrise, which was created for early morning and dusk especially for fishermen – and fisherwomen. But you don’t have to fish to get the most out of this lens.

The mirrored lenses are not only protective of your eyes, but they are also really quite attractive. My eyes are very sensitive so I usually opt for the dark gray lens.

costa copra1
As far as frame colors, there is a wide variety ranging from plain shiny black to multi-colored. Creating your personal style with your own selection of frames and lenses is just the start of your Costa experience. The polarized lenses and the high quality of both the lenses and the frames make for the most comfortable pair of sunglasses with easy-to-wear cushioned temples and earpieces.

Costa anaa1

Each pair of Costa sunglasses comes with a lifetime warranty. How’s that for a company that stands by their products? They also include a durable case with every purchase. The prices vary depending on frame style and lenses.

costa caseWith summer just around the corner, it’s time to treat yourself to a new pair of sunglasses to last the season and beyond. Check out the Costa variety at their website and create your own pair.

Disney Animators’ Collection Alice Doll

The newest addition to the popular Disney Animators’ Collection is Alice from Alice in Wonderland. Like the others in the series, Alice stands 16 inches tall and was designed by a Disney animator.

Alice definitely looks sweet and innocent. She is smiling and her big blue eyes show her wonder at the big wide world. Her blonde hair is tied with a black ribbon on the top of her head. She wears a bright blue dress with a white apron. Alice carries a miniature soft stuffed version of her beloved cat Dinah.
Alice1
Dale Baer is the Disney animator who helped create this newest doll in the series. He has worked on several popular characters from a variety of animated films including The Rescuers, The Great Mouse Detective, The Lion King, The Emperor’s New Groove, Meet the Robinsons, The Princess and the Frog, and Winnie the Pooh. Each of these films has given us beloved characters, and Baer lends his talents to this new doll.

The first thing everyone will notice about Alice is her angelic face. Little girls will take her to their hearts, and older girls, ahem women, will be delighted by all the sweetness she has to offer. Her box is adorned with sketches from the story, making it a nice way to display little Alice, but if you do want to take her out, the Kaiser doll stand #2601 is the perfect way to display Alice on a shelf. Of course, she can always just be hugged and played with.

The newest film, Alice Through the Looking Glass, hits theaters May 27, 2016, but Alice is probably best known for her first Disney film, Alice in Wonderland, which came out in 1951 and is a classic animated feature. This wasn’t the first film, however, to feature the delightful little girl. There were other movies before the Disney version. And the 2010 Tim Burton film showed a more mature Alice returning to Wonderland. The newest Burton story has Alice returning yet again to the place where her wildest adventures occurred.
alicedressaliceset
Little girls might enjoy dressing like Alice. The Disney Store has a matching dress for girls. They also have a miniature version of the doll that comes in a playset with other characters from the story. If your child loves Alice, reading the Alice in Wonderland book by Lewis Carroll is a great way to share time together. There are plenty of books about Alice that kids will enjoy hearing at bedtime with this Alice doll tucked into the covers next to them in bed.

The animator doll has all the whimsy and excitement of the character. Little Alice is a sweet doll with a big smile and a slightly turned up nose in her profile. It’s difficult to look at her and not smile. She exudes love and kindness. Undoubtedly she will be a beloved friend for many little girls. This doll is for ages 3+.

Conair Curl Secret Product Review

curl
Throw away your hot curlers. The latest and greatest item for curling hair is the Curl Secret from Conair. Whether you want tight curls or a beachy wave style, this one gadget does it all.

This is something you have to try for yourself to believe. Take a lock of hair and set it in the Curl Secret. Clamp down on the unit and the device automatically pulls in the hair and wraps it around the tourmaline curler. You see your hair going in, and it does it without any extra effort from you. It simply takes the hair and winds it inside.

The gadget will beep once the hair is all in. Then there will be a series of beeps. The maximum is four beeps and then there will be several beeps in succession telling you the curl is done. Open it up and your beautifully curled hair will fall out.

When I want soft waves, I open my unit after three beeps, then when all of my hair has been curled I run my fingers through it and I get soft, beachy waves. When I want a tight curl, I let it go for the duration.
curl1
The great thing about this unit is that it doesn’t tug at your hair. If you have too much to go in, it warns you and stops. Then just open it up and start again. It also does this if the lock of hair is tangled. This is the safety of using this device. I have been using it for a couple months and have never had it hurt my hair or tug at it. It stops cold if something is not right.

Another great aspect of the unit is the tourmaline ceramic, which leaves hair shiny and not frizzy. It’s great for thick hair that tends to be frizzy. With the Curl Secret, the frizz is gone and hair is shiny and curled, all in one step.

I have demonstrated the curl secret to several people who cannot imagine this great technology. It is always met with “oohs” and “ahhs” and sheer amazement.

There might be a slight learning curve to see how long you need to keep your hair in the curler. Straight, fine hair will require the full length of time. Thicker hair might not. You can play with the device to find what works for you. But once you do, you’ll love this little unit. I do.

Go to the Conair website to see what this unit can do.

Great Wolf Lodge Opens in Southern California

Great Wolf Lodge has opened its 13th resort, this time in Southern California. Located in Garden Grove, about 40 minutes (without traffic) from LAX, the resort provides year-round fun for families.

First, the resort boasts an enormous indoor water park which encompasses 120,000 square feet of great H2O fun, whether it be sliding down one of the many water slides, swimming and playing in the pools, surfing in the Wolf Rider Wipeout pool, or simply playing in the waves. What makes this water park so enjoyable is that there is no need to slather on the sunscreen. It’s all inside and the temperature is a constant 84 degrees with the water temp kept between 82 and 83 degrees, so no one will get a chill when exiting one pool and heading to another. For those who love the sun, there is one outside pool with more water fun. Parents don’t need to worry because there are complementary lifejackets available and plenty of lifeguards in every pool. Children do need to be accompanied by an adult though.
Wolf Rider WipeoutIf you’re thinking a water park isn’t a good idea for drought-ridden California, the water park contains 565,000 gallons of water, which is less than an Olympic-size swimming pool. The water is filtered, treated, heated, and reused. And the way they use it, with all the slides (over 4,000 feet in all) and recirculation, it is not even a proverbial drop in the bucket.

The water park is probably the main focus of this resort, however there are plenty of other activities that deserve recognition and consideration when planning your next family vacation. There is the 24-hour Northern Lights Arcade with over 100 games from which to choose. And there is a shortened bowling alley with five-pound balls so little ones can enjoy the game. As if that’s not enough, there is a glow-in-the-dark indoor miniature golf course too.
Scooops Kid Spa 2
Little ones can take advantage of the Scooops (no misspelling) Kid Spa with several choices, including a Mommy & Me Pedicure ($79.99), manicures ($44.99), a princess experience ($89.99), and other options. And every option includes an ice cream dessert.
Ten Paw Alley

The HowlyWood XD Theater presents 5-minute special effects films with motion seats that react to the films. Audiences get right into the action here.
Hungry as a Wolf
Seven eateries provide guests with plenty of choices, from a simple buffet to a table-service restaurant. And with three stores in the resort, there is everything from swimming essentials to jewelry to all kinds of souvenirs and stuffed animals. One store even has a sort of build-a-bear area with the various characters from the resort.

And speaking of the Great Wolf Lodge characters, they consist of the mascot, Wiley the Wolf, along with fellow wolf Violet, Oliver and Rachel Raccoon, Brinley Bear, and Sammy the Squirrel. The lodge has several character appearances during the day as well as a Wolf Walk where guests learn about the great Northwoods wildlife.

characters mine
Story Time happens in the lobby area every night at 8 and 9 pm. Little ones gather (often already in their PJs) to hear a bedtime story before heading back to their rooms. The different room options sleep up to 7 guests.

Included in the nightly room fee is free admittance to all areas of the lodge, however, with the exception of the water park, each activity is a separate fee. When registering guests get wristbands so there is no need to carry any money. Simply use the wristband to charge any activity or food to the room.

MagiQuest is a game that is available to play throughout the resort. Magic wands (starting at $18 and can be personalized with options and additional games) work throughout the resort at several locations. The interactive game gives guests challenges and plenty of fun with the wave of the magic wand. This wand can be used at any of the Great Wolf Lodge resorts. Currently there are 13 with more planned throughout the country.

What might appeal to parents is that for every night guests get two days of fun in the resort. Even if your room is not ready when you get to the lodge, you can start taking advantage of all the activities, and on the day of check-out guests can still access the water park and activities until closing.

Holidays are made special at the resort with Howl-O-Ween October (plenty of special activities corresponding to Halloween) and Snowland December where snow falls daily in the Grand Lobby.

small pool mine
“At Great Wolf Lodge, we want each family to have a truly memorable experience,” said CEO Ruben Rodriguez. There are standard suites as well as themed suites. Every room is a suite with plenty of room (no pun intended) to move around.
Grizzly Bear Suite
Great Wolf Lodge Garden Grove offers visitors to Southern California another option for a family vacation. It’s really an interesting family destination, and close to other resorts including Knott’s Berry Farm and Disneyland. Great Wolf Lodge has a relaxed, family-feel with everything under one roof.

Cars Land Adds Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters

2_16_DCA_017938C-2
Disneyland Resort is always growing. The newest attraction is at California Adventure where Luigi’s family has come to California from Italy to share in the fun. Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters replaces the old attraction that was, well, not very popular. You remember Luigi’s Flying Tires? It was fun but not exciting or memorable. Well, Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters promises to be more entertaining and enjoyable.

When you get to Cars Land, head to the back to the Casa della Tires. There, guests ride in miniature Italian roadsters as the singing cars dance and move across the floor. “Here at Luigi’s, the roadsters seem to have a mind of their own” said Kevin Rafferty, Executive Creative Director of Walt Disney Imagineering. He explained that each car has his – or her – own signature move so when guests ride in different cars, they will get a different experience.

Each car has his – or her – own name and personality. And they each look different. They are definitely unique, and Luigi is happy to have his cousins in Cars Land to help entertain guests in the park.

2_16_DCA_016735-2
Here are some facts about Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters:

It is the first Disney attraction in the United States with a trackless ride system. That means the cars are free to dance around at their pleasure.

The cars will spin, turn, and glide across the floor and can even interact with each other.

The “dance floor” is 125 feet long and 70 feet wide, which is large enough to give these mini-roadsters enough room to strut their stuff.

Some of the cars sing. Luigi sings “Rollicking Night and Day,” cousin Rosetta sings “Mambo Italiano,” cousin Lou sings “Eh, Cumpari,” and Luigi calls out periodically with his own additions to the repertoire.

There are fun things to see while you’re in Luigi’s territory. The attraction adds some extra fun and whimsy to Cars Land. The entrance to Cars Land has Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree, where the little tractors spin and sing, and now at the end of the street Luigi’s cousins have their own fun dancing and singing. Cars Land is definitely expanding and adding more cares with personality and even musical abilities!

Get your groove thing on with Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters. The fun opens to the public March 7, 2016.

Click here to check out the fun with Luigi and his cousins!
